Isn't this cute? One of my students stitched it and gave it to me… - Beyond Words
http://allisona.livejournal.com/536709.html
Feb 20th, 2014. One of my students stitched it and gave it to me for Valentine's Day. When I asked her how long she'd been stitching she told me it was the first piece she'd ever done. Pretty impressive! And I was touched she gave it to me. It's up on my teacher bulletin board now. 4 comments Leave a comment. Feb 20th, 2014 04:42 pm (UTC). Feb 20th, 2014 05:03 pm (UTC). Aug 10th, 2008 at 12:37 AM. Fun night out with Sally and George. Tonight - our friends who should, by rights, be our parents' friends, since they're about that age. And Kev might have kidnapped their cat if not for my allergies. I suppose I should take that as a compliment. 5 comments Leave a comment. Aug 10th, 2008 09:41 pm (UTC). A Writing Mother’s Musings. Prix Galien Goes To…Promacta! October 1, 2009. Eleven or twelve years ago, Kevin spent his days working on making a little chemical compound that he hoped might one day help make sick people better. He told me that most people in his field go through their careers without inventing something that becomes a drug, but that he had a good feeling about this one. Tonight it was awarded the Prix-Galien Medal. And then, sort of suddenly, it was over. All the time our lives moved on&#...

The Buford Scale - Angus's & Gregor's Day
http://angusd.livejournal.com/371593.html
Anguss and Gregors Day. Jan 14th, 2013 at 9:02 PM. Angus is working on weather in his science class. He has a wind sock up in a tree in our garden and is taking notes on the severity of the wind, based on its observable effect on things around us. This, of course, has to do with the Beaufort Scale. Tonight I was checking over his notes and was amused to find that he had decided he was making observations on the "Buford Scale". It's at times like these I wish I was a cartoonist. 1 comment Leave a comment.

Burns' Night - Angus's & Gregor's Day
http://angusd.livejournal.com/365035.html
Anguss and Gregors Day. Jan 25th, 2012 at 7:45 PM. Now that we are officially Americans. It seemed like a fine time to order some haggis and some oatcakes and sit down to a proper Burns Night Supper. Theres a company in New Jersey. That has worked up their own haggis recipe and lobbied the USDA. To allow them to make and sell the stuff. Having found them, I placed an order a week and a half ago. Having tasted MacLeans Oatcakes. If I had spotted that they also import Salar Salmon. I was a bit nervous, as ...

A Writing Mother’s Musings. Intro To Print On-Demand Publishing. These articles were written in 2000-2001, when Print On-Demand book publishing (as made available directly to authors) was new and shiny and everything was possible. Since then several large companies appear to be taking over the world (grabby, grabby, Amazon! And things have changed a bit. This info is still pretty relevant as a primer, though. A Writing Mother’s Musings. XKCD Gives Away Our Secret. More Bicycling →. August 27, 2009. Apparently it’s true: you really do never forget how to ride a bike. After one circuit he declared himself done, but he was willing to run around once more, with his helmet on, he said. So I jumped on my bike and took them on a clockwise circuit which involves no road crossing. Well, sorry about that.). But now, as I said, I am old and I am fat. My weight loss guru has advised finding a form of exercise that yo...

A Writing Mother’s Musings. Prix Galien Goes To…Promacta! August 30, 2009. We had reached that slow point on Saturday morning where Kev and Angus were starting to yawn, having been up for hours, and where Gregor was just finished breakfast, and where nothing much seemed likely to happen for the next hour or so. So I jumped into some clothes and took my bike out for another spin. Herewith, more Lessons From A Born-Again Cyclist. Note to self: must by saddlebag/handlebar-bag). 6, The world shrinks a little...
