Travis, at the age of 29 got Colon Cancer, cancer that they don’t even screen for until you are 50 because it’s not a young man’s cancer. The Homers: July 2015

http://courtneyhastings.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 24, 2015. Jayna came to visit: New York, part 3. We had much to see Friday morning before we hit the road. Our first stop was the NY public library. Sad that we got there before they opened. Thanks to the City Pass, we hit up the Empire State building. We got there right after they opened and the lines were virtually nonexistent. Wonderful. Jayna and I watched "Sleepless in Seattle" for my first time after we got back so I could see the famous elevator doors. We worked off our feast by walki...

Saturday, August 1, 2015. Jayna came to visit: Assateague, etc. Sunday after church we packed up the truck and headed to Assateague island on the eastern shore. Dustin showed his enthusiasm. The island was beautiful and the bugs were plentiful. We set up camp right off the beach, grilled some dinner, and enjoyed the sunset. Monday morning we hung out on the beach. Assateague is home of wild horses, who also joined us on the beach. They're not particularly friendly, but we said hi anyway. Open House by El...

The Homers: Kirtland Youth Conference

http://courtneyhastings.blogspot.com/2015/08/kirtland-youth-conference.html

Monday, August 10, 2015. First stop was the Johnson Farm about an hour outside Kirtland. We had sack lunches before the farm tour. This is Jacob - he was in our seminary class last year. Jacob has cerebral palsy and is autistic. He's wonderful. And he'll talk to you for hours about the virtues of chick-fil-a, Coldplay, and City Creek in Salt Lake. The room where Joseph and Emma stayed - where he was pulled from bed by the mob. Next stop was historic Kirtland. We had a very nice elderly missionary giv...

Friday, August 7, 2015. Mamo and Papo came to visit. Dad had a conference in Canada mid-June, and since it's on the right coast, they graciously paid us a visit. Sad for them, we still had things left in the old apartment and some major cleaning ahead of us. They were wonderfully helpful and I couldn't have done it without them. I knew I had to get a picture of this or no one would believe me. But turns out dad is pretty handy with a vacuum. Dustin was so excited to have a visitor who would eat crabs wit...

Wednesday, April 29, 2015. California, mostly Wren. Warning: LOTS AND LOTS of pictures of Wren. With the drama behind me, I had 13 wonderful days in California with the Kringels. I have no idea where the time went, though. I spent lots of time admiring this little one sleep. Sometimes she sleeps while eating. By the end of the trip, she spent a decent amount of time pretty alert, too. And really cute. She's turning into an excellent stretcher. There was much sister-love. Whitney and her girls. I think that was the day after he woke me up in the morning and asked if I would give him a ride to the metro since he missed the shuttle. I told him of course and wiped my tired eyes. He then told me, "Everyone says you're mean in the morning but you're actually kind of nice." Thanks, honey. And I saved the best for last - I'm going back to school! Friday, July 25, 2014. Sunday, September 28, 2014. The first 3 weeks of seminary. We are 3 weeks in and, in short, the kids are wonderful and I'm not even that tired. I've mostly cut out the naps and really feel like my changed sleeping habits/lack of tiredness are truly miraculous. Also motivating is the nice feedback we get from the kids on occasion. After the first week, one student told his mom, "The only bad thing about seminary is how short it is. It's like we get started into something and then it's over.". By Andre Ray...

The Homers: March 2015

http://courtneyhastings.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 19, 2015. Dad came to town. Dad had meetings in Florida which meant that, since we're also on the east coast and Florida is basically Virginia, we got a quick visit, too. Before he came, I asked what he wanted to do. He said, "Walk and talk." In our 2.5 days, we fit in lots of walking and tons of talking. It was great. Only wish he had stuck around a bit longer. Knife-sharpening lessons came first. I have never seen the water at Great Falls this high. Much snow run-off. Since we ended up ...

Thursday, August 28, 2014. Two weeks in Boise, part 2. Jake and Katie left Tuesday morning early and Dustin flew out Tuesday afternoon. Jayna, Collin, and I saw "Guardians of the Galaxy" Tuesday night. Collin had heard about it on NPR, so he had higher expectations than Jayna and I. It was better than I expected. Jayna and I stayed up way too late talking that night (so fun! Friday night we went to Bodacious Pig BBQ. It was delicious. I will be going back next time I'm in Boise. It was a major undertaking.

Saturday, November 22, 2014. Saturday we took them to Tae Kwon Do, forced the boys to play outside a little bit, let them play some video games, had an epic Nerf battle, watched a movie, and had pizza. We played some basketball. Dustin facilitated some dunking. Bedtime was a little rough when the middle one couldn't sleep because of a sore throat. That night I learned the healing power of hot chocolate. Sunday was church, more games and Nerf battles. Monday, November 17, 2014. San Francisco part 2. I stu...

Fighting on the Beaches

Fighting on the Beaches. Thursday, May 04, 2006. Old Dogs Suggest Old Tricks. One of the failings of Paul Martin's fabled "Board" was the prominence of many of charter members. It sometimes seemed as though the Board was more concerned about convincing Canadian of their brilliance than demonstrating their ability to run a country. This tendency contributed to the rather premature end of the 'Golden Age of Paul Martin.". Posted by Christopher at 12:33 AM. Monday, May 01, 2006. The Thrill of the Chase.
