Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Derek, brandon, kadi and alyssa with dr. finklestein, derek's oncologist. After derek's transfusion last week, he was feeling much better - so much better that he called a few of his friends over for a last minute poker game. which turned into a sleepover! Needless to say, he had a great time! They didn't stay up too late - game was over pretty early, because someone spilled a drink on the cards and chips. so it was wii for the rest of the night. Oh, happy chinese new year's!

Saturday, December 27, 2008. Hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas! As usual, there wasn’t enough time to get everything I wanted to get done, done…. Derek continues his weekly doctor visits – nothing much new on that end. Although, he is getting a blood transfusion as I write this. The doctor said he would pretty much need a transfusion 100% next week, and with the new year holiday and festivities, we decided we may as well get it done today…. It makes for a much happier child and a much less grouch...

I just wanted to add a couple pictures of what the youth mission team from our church (Faith United Methodist) did to honor Derek while they were away in Louisiana when Derek passed. Besides sen. Saturday, July 11, 2009. Friday, July 3, 2009. Final Farewell and Tribute. This morning we gathered with family and some close friends to say our final goodbyes to Derek. His remains were interned at Green Hills Memorial Park in the beautiful hills of Palos.
