Inane ramblings on war gaming and other hobby stuff! Saturday, June 20, 2015. The next Crossfire instalment . lessons learned. This week's Crossfire shenanigans with my 'gamers at College involved two small practice scenarios taken from 'Wargaming with gluteous maximus'. This first game was 'The Woods' in which the objective was to eliminate the enemy. Caught in the open. The German squad at the bottom of the photo had been further to the right, thinking it was pinned by the British vickers centre right&...

Yep, I'm done with this year's painting challenge, the GW Chaos Defiler. I chose the Night Lord' colour scheme to fit with the theme I'd used for the Chaos Space Marines, although I didn't do the 'lightning bolts across the armour' thing. Will it ever see service on a 'gaming table? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Some favourite hobby blogs. Soldiers of the Queen.

Inane ramblings on war gaming and other hobby stuff! Wednesday, August 12, 2015. The Tank war' - Mark Urban. I've just finished reading this remarkable book. In this case it is the story of the 5th Royal Tank Regiment through World war 2. He chose the regiment not because he thought it was something special (although it was a part of 7th Armoured Division, the famous 'Desert Rats') but because if offered the richest source of surviving archival material. Thanks for the 'heads up' on the documentary:.

Inane ramblings on war gaming and other hobby stuff! Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Running repairs complete. Para recon, and three late war British tows re-assembled and glued back on their bases. Not a lot of call for trucks in Spearhead as quite rightly one shouldn't really be seen dead in a truck in the FEBA (or alternatively if in a truck in the FEBA you are very likely to be seen dead). Righto . next please. Links to this post. What's on the painting table? What's on at the moment? Links to this post.

Wargamingnz: Intensive Spearhead action
http://wargamingnz.blogspot.com/2015/08/intensive-spearhead-action.html
Inane ramblings on war gaming and other hobby stuff! Sunday, August 2, 2015. After an introductory Spearhead WW2 game last week, this week we broke down into two games with one player per side, and slightly larger forces on each side. Each side saw a reinforced German battalion battling a small allied regiment reinforce with armour. Both tables set up amidst a hush as plans were drawn. Initial deployment and first moves on each table. In this game a German infantry battalion with two platoons of PzkwIVs ...

Inane ramblings on war gaming and other hobby stuff! Friday, July 31, 2015. Quarter of a mill. wow! This blog has just clocked over a quarter if a million views. Slow progress, but I hope that those who've bothered to call by have found something of interest. The posts reflect my eclectic tastes, my 'butterfly' disposition, my general inability to remain focussed on any one thing for long. Go with me here as I attempt self justification for my wayward habits. In the meantime, enjoy your hobby! WW1: Exper...

Inane ramblings on war gaming and other hobby stuff! Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Mantic Insider 06 - Why You Should Play Kings of War. I've been playing Kings of War (the massed fantasy battle game from Mantic) since it first came out. I bought the 1st edition rule book, and have always enjoyed games using those rules. So impressed have I been that I supported the Kickstarter for the publication of the 2nd Edition. My copy is due within a week or so. Here is a lovely intro to the rules. Soldiers of the Queen.

Inane ramblings on war gaming and other hobby stuff! Saturday, June 27, 2015. Another morning at the office. It was a varied morning for the boys who war game at College. Four of them fought across the skies above Germany in 1943, P51s trying to clear the skies of the ever present Fw190s in preparation for the arrival of the bomber waves. Sadly the Fw 190s were piloted by some of the Reich's best, and the P51s were driven from the skies. Meanwhile another two boys battled across a 40K table, Tau on Tau .
