Finding Her Balance

My own personal March madness. March 8, 2017. March 8, 2017. Did you know that your life completely flies out the window when you’re in the throes of wedding planning? It’s also super fun when you get sick on top of all of that, because in the midst of planning and also trying to maintain your social life, you forget to rest and that tiny little cold you felt coming on turns into a full-blown case of the plague (yes, that’s definitely what I have). I will just feel. So much. better. The sound of traffic.

Finding Her Balance: Vision board magic.

https://findingherbalance.com/2014/07/vision-board-magic.html

Friday, July 25, 2014. For the past few months, my cousin Lyndsay and I kept promising each other that we would sit down and make vision boards together. I had been hooked in the idea for a while; she learned about it after a spa retreat last summer. Last night, we FINALLY sat down with my mom, some sangria, and a crazy collection of magazines and got to work. Favorite image (yes, that's T-Swift but it was included because of the pink sparkly dress). Will laugh at anything. The content of this site, unle...

Finding Her Balance: Saying maybe.

https://findingherbalance.com/2014/07/saying-maybe.html

Thursday, July 17, 2014. They don't write love stories about the tiny, every day gestures. Waking up and falling back asleep five times every morning because the other person likes to sleep in. Tolerating an ingrained habit of off-pitch singing that just can. not. be. stopped. Letting the other person drive everywhere even though you love driving. They don't write love stories about the princes that are dark and handsome, but maybe not so tall. Loving someone is fully embracing that they have flaws, that...

Finding Her Balance: What I Need.

https://findingherbalance.com/2014/09/what-i-need.html

Wednesday, September 10, 2014. I just deleted a post that was all about how I am aware of my shortcomings, aware of my excuses, and how I still feel defined by my failures and powerless against fighting that feeling. I deleted it because I felt ashamed. Not because I figured something out, or realized I was making excuses (which I already realize), but because my face flushed with shame at the thought of people reading it and thinking about how I could take the time I spent complaining and woe-is-me.

Finding Her Balance: 30 Before 30

https://findingherbalance.com/p/30-before-30.html

Go to dinner by myself. Go to a movie by myself. OMG went to Vegas! Take a weekend getaway with Erik. Buy a sewing machine. Go to a(nother) major sporting event (this was on the list in my head before I went to see the New York Rangers, so it's on my list to go to something else). Learn to make 10 meals well enough that I don't need the recipe (0/10). Open at Etsy shop (or sell crafty goods in some fashion). Watch 37 "classic" movies (0/37, list below). Go to Disney World. Take a yoga class. Twenty-somet...

Finding Her Balance: On and off.

https://findingherbalance.com/2014/12/on-and-off.html

Monday, December 1, 2014. Christmastime seems as good a time as any to settle back into my writing here, or at least try. More and more often, I find myself wondering how days and weeks go by while feeling like mere moments. I'm not insanely busy - I work from 9 to 5:30, have a decent commute, and don't always have jam-packed weekends. But in my downtime, instead of doing anything remotely productive, I watch mindless TV shows and scroll endlessly through my tumblr feed. Will laugh at anything. Life move...

The life and times of Amanda Suzanne. I wish I would have used my time a little more wisely. I can’t believe I forgot to mention in my last post that I’m going to Bloggers in Sin City. I have wanted to go for years but I had exams. This year I can actually fit it into my schedule. I also found out that this is the LAST one. So one night I was online talking to Maxie and she said “you should do it” . . . AND I DID! I’m really excited to meet my roommate Cait. It was also cold! Here are some pics:. We stoo...

Just a girl living the expat life. F*ck off, cancer (take two). February 19, 2015. Filed under: f*ck that. Last week, I dug out this picture of my best friend and me. It’s one of my favorites. Those were happy, carefree times. I think this was taken ca. 2001. Obviously, we were dressed up for carnival, ready to hit the parties in town. We weren’t always bestest, closest. Much, much later, but she always was in my close circle and I think we’ve really become best friends in 7th grade (give or take a year).

Trying to find my feet. Trying to stay afloat. And sometimes succeeding. Little steps and big gratitude. August 28, 2015. It has been a big couple of months. And all of a sudden I’m sitting on my couch, losing myself in an Italian red, in Nick Cave, windows open, drenching myself in an evening that despite the month is determined not to be winter. And just like that, I’m procrastinating packing, and in seven short nights I’ll move home. Home! As you know from my previous posts, social anxiety and my auto...

Finding Her Forte

October 23, 2017. Posted by findingherforte in poetry. I awoke to a world on fire. Warm and crispy hues. Stark against the greens and blues. I had grown so accustomed to. Right beneath my feet. Bright embers licked the ground. The stillness of the morning broken. By the smothered, crunching sound. Cold winds promised solace. But spread the fire far. Whispering cruel, unyielding truths. Til all the trees were bare. February 3, 2017. Posted by findingherforte in poetry. Today is the day. My father at war.

An American Bookworm in London. The Craziest Story Ever Told. Have you ever noticed that everything about the birth of Jesus was unexpected? Nothing was done in the way that anyone thought it should happen. Even the wise men who came from far away to herald the birth of a king looked for him in Jerusalem, because isn’t that where a king of Israel should have been born? Perhaps Jesus was born as an outcast within his immediate world. The people had been waiting for a Messiah for so, so long . . &#...Even ...
