Finding Hope in the darkness: June 2014

http://www.findinghopeinthedarkness.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Finding Hope in the darkness. Wednesday, June 25, 2014. It's Just Not The Same. Have you ever watched a movie that was based on a book and been disappointed that it was not the same? The book was good. The movie was good. Just the movie was too different from the original story, so you were disappointed. It is a strange sensation. Watching your shoe sink. Or what is supposed to be. It's funny to see. What happens if my shoe sticks. You quickly search for. A place to escape. Knowing that leaving a shoe.

Finding Hope in the darkness: April 2014

http://www.findinghopeinthedarkness.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Finding Hope in the darkness. Sunday, April 13, 2014. Way laid by icky ness. Well I had every intention of being part of the poem a day movement. But life had other plans for me. Down sick for nearly a week now, very little writing has gotten done at all. Very little anything has gotten done. Except for cough, blow, groan, drink water/tea, cough. I have way too much going on to be sick. When do we not have way too much going on for that? Sometimes our bodies take over and we are forced to stop. I wasn't ...

Finding Hope in the darkness: August 2014

http://www.findinghopeinthedarkness.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Finding Hope in the darkness. Monday, August 18, 2014. Plant your path with careful choices. Life is not a lot thrown for you or a hand dealt to you. Life is a path forged by you. If you choose to let the weeds grow, then your life will be full of creeping vines that make progress difficult and tear away at the fiber of your life. Ivy growing up old, brick buildings looks beautiful, but in reality the roots are boring into the brick. One day the brick dissolves to a crumbled mess. That seemed to stand.

Finding Hope in the darkness: Fear of losing inner self

http://www.findinghopeinthedarkness.blogspot.com/2014/09/fear-of-losing-inner-self.html

Finding Hope in the darkness. Sunday, September 7, 2014. Fear of losing inner self. No matter how many wonderful people I have around me. When the voices in my head go quiet. It is incredibly lonely. Cold as a room full of strangers. My mind finds nothing familiar. Nothing to go to for comfort. When nothing I see or hear inspires words. It's as if I have lost my hearing. No inner sound creates a void. Feeling like a child lost in my own world. Wide eyed, seeking something familiar.

From the beginning . Gong Xi Fa Cai! O I don’t speak Mandarin…yet, but I believe that means “Wishing you will be prosperous” in the New Year. Chinese New Year is January 23rd, and we’re welcoming the year of the dragon. Lanterns at Temple Kun Yam Thong, down the street from our apartment. The only time the Chinese zodiac had crossed my mind was in Chinese restaurants when the placemat would help you figure out what your sign was (1980, year of the monkey). It’s impossible to miss it here! That is, until ...

On to Kyoto | Wish you were here

http://chris.blackstone.name/2015/03/16/on-to-kyoto

From the beginning . Beautiful day with cherry blossoms in Yoyogi Park. After the park, we walked over to the Ota Memorial Museum of Art, which is home to one of the best collections of ukiyo-e (woodblock) prints in Japan. Their collection rotates, and the current exhibit was called “ Kawaii: cute girls in Ukiyo-e. 8220; I could have spent much longer here if I was by myself, but Ren did a good job looking quickly at the prints, and describing what she saw, “Mama, baby bath! 8221; or “brush hair! The hou...

From the beginning . Pearl of the Orient. E spent most of January in KL, partially because my Mandarin lessons were supposed to begin in mid-January, but also to avoid traveling during Chinese New Year when lots of locals take to the roads. Don’t worry, we’ve spent February making up for lost time! Giant dragon incense in the streets of Penang. Yes, he drove with this much confidence. Peranakan furniture inlaid with mother of pearl designs. What really made this dinner special to us was the atmosphere an...

A Perfect Day | Wish you were here

http://chris.blackstone.name/2015/03/20/a-perfect-day

From the beginning . Ome days are just amazing, and Monday was one of them. We set out for the northwest of Kyoto, to visit the Golden Pagoda and Ryoan-ji. Kinkaku-ji, Golden Pavilion. Our visit was still lovely, relaxing and calming. Do you see the tiger? We crossed the street back over to Sakon, the restaurant, and were ushered into a private dining room. We decided to splurge on a multi-course meal, and proceeded to have one of the more memorable meals of my life. Ren said the tuna was delicious.

2012 March | Wish you were here

http://chris.blackstone.name/2012/03

From the beginning . Elaka, Malacca, Melaqa…it seems you can spell it anyway you like! Melaka seems to be the most commonly found version here in Malaysia, so that’s what I’m going with. As with Georgetown in Penang, in 2008 Melaka was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since it is only a two hour bus ride away from KL, it is a very popular weekend destination and has the reputation for being pretty touristy. We may look like tourists, but who cares? Were having a great time! Jonker Walk Night Market.

From the beginning . Meiji Shrine and Shibuya. Oday started with the small miracle of Ren sleeping until almost 8! We’re officially on Tokyo time, and I think we’re all a little shocked that it has happened so quickly. Mauling a bear for breakfast. Ren continued on her quest of consuming the cutest pastries possible for breakfast by mauling a teddy bear bun for breakfast, and we headed out to Meiji Shrine. Torii gate at Meiji Shrine. Ren just hung the Ema on the top left. Post nap, we had thought we woul...

http://chris.blackstone.name/2013/06

From the beginning . Where have you been? 8216;m actually just back from a two and a half week adventure, that was my most nerve-wracking trip yet: traveling across the United States with a five month old baby. Happily, the trip was fantastic, and little Ren was a pro. It’s clear that she has inherited our love of travel, although it probably shouldn’t have been surprising since we trained her from the womb! So, yes, I’m back. Why, after so long? Ren and Grampy watching the planes at the airport.

Finding Hope in the Aftermath

Finding Hope in the Aftermath. Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Empty Arms and A Quiet House. It's been a while since I've written and I feel as I almost seem to have forgotten how. I will say this though, it is a great way to say profess your thoughts and feelings without casting them out there in a wild abandon. Why can't I focus on the positive and push away from the negative? Why is it that I drove 115mph down Highway 78 tonight with no concern that something tragic might happen? Can I bring him back again?
