Finding Joy in Florida – Searching the Past, Present, and In Between the Lines
Finding Joy in Florida. Searching the Past, Present, and In Between the Lines. In Florida, It’s Absolutely Great to Be a Cracker. April 15, 2014. By Joy Wallace Dickinson. This Orlando postcard from the 1890s was captioned “The Cracker in Town.”. In a lot of places, you might be slugged for calling someone a cracker, if you mean a bigoted, redneck Southern white. But in Florida, it’s great to be a Cracker so much so that we capitalize it. Cracker: The Cracker Culture in Florida History. University of Flo...
Finding Joy in Him
Finding Joy in Him. Sunday, May 17, 2015. Finding Comfort in the Maker of the Mountains. In my hardest, darkest days the only thing that comforts me is meditating on who God is. A song of ascents. 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord,. The Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip—. He who watches over you will not slumber;. 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel. Will neither slumber nor sleep. Nor the moon by night. Now we se...

Finding Joy in My Journey
Finding Joy in My Journey. Tuesday, January 17, 2012. For quite awhile my children believed that a mommy went to the dentist to have a baby. Makes sense if you think about it from their perspective: food goes in your belly; it gets there through your mouth. If you throw up food, that comes out your mouth. So of course a baby in your belly has to come out of your mouth. What kind of doctor looks in your mouth? A dentist. See? My belly, as is illustrated by our after-dinner conversation. E: Oh But hooow.

And I about peed my pants laughing when I noticed he was still wearing his fleece pajamas, long underwear and a sweatshirt. "It was COLD in Bolinas, Mom, like 50 or 60 degrees! The standard by which I measured "worth" and "success" started shifting. What I hope for Oscar is simple in expression though not necessarily in realization. Finding Joy in the Desert
Finding Joy in the Desert. Friday, February 6, 2015. When I close my eyes I can still see you. I can feel your precious cheeks on my lips and I can smell the scent that was uniquely yours. I can hear your tiny squeak and I can feel the peace I felt when I first held you and the heartbreak that incurred when I placed you in a bassinet and said a final goodbye. What would we have done for your first birthday? Would you have enjoyed your first cupcake? Would I have such a longing for eternity or would I be ...
