Cherish the Moment: January 2015
http://sjflake.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 19, 2015. The other night I randomly woke up in the middle of the night. I turned over, grabbed the video baby monitor from my side of the bed, and checked on Aidan. His face was turned towards the camera, but I couldn't tell if he was breathing or not. I watched for a few minutes and decided to wake up Jayze. Jayze, I can't tell if Aidan's breathing," I shook his shoulder. I sat up a little and said, "You poked him? Yeah Well, I was really tired, so I poked him, and he just stirred a lit...

Cherish the Moment: July 2015
http://sjflake.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2015. This year the 24th landed on a Friday, which meant that Jayze had work off. That day we aired up the mini swimming pool we bought for the 4th of July, invited my sis-in-law and sister over, and hung out and talked. It was Aidan's first time in the swimming pool. The water in Idaho is cold. We sat by really nice people (Jayze works with one of them) and chatted until the parade started. A man sitting right by us had a little dog. He showed the dog to Aidan, and since Aidan ...My ba...

On August 27, 2013, I went in for a routine doctor's appointment and found out that our baby boy - just past 37 weeks (officially considered a full-term baby) - had passed away. I gave birth to him at 11:42 am on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Below is a link to his story. Let me tell you a story. Until we meet again, my sweet Alma. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Cherish the Moment: My Lifeguard
http://sjflake.blogspot.com/2015/08/my-lifeguard.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Dark, ominous waves crashed against the side of the boat, spraying fine, cold mists across anxious faces and frantic-working hands struggling to control the bobbing boat. Lightening lit up the black sky and thunder crashed in the not-too-far distance. The wind tossed them on the rippling waves, and it seemed the night would never end and all hope was lost. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.". His drenched robes dripped wate...

Cherish the Moment: June 2015
http://sjflake.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 17, 2015. I cut my finger last week. It was right before Aidan's bedtime. Jayze was at the store buying an ingredient we needed for our masterpiece dinner. I kept glancing at the clock, confident that I could get the halfway cut-up carrots in the oven before Aidan had a complete meltdown and before Jayze got back. When Jayze and I can't settle on a movie, we resort to watching Chopped on Hulu. Although "resort" isn't the best word because we're kind of addicted to that, too. I dropped the...

Cherish the Moment: March 2015
http://sjflake.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 22, 2015. How to Help - Just a Few Ideas. A few weeks ago, I ran into one of our good friends. I had just parked the car and was getting Aidan out of the back seat when I heard a friendly, "Hey! I looked around, saw our good friend, and smiled and waved back. It's been too long since we've seen you! A familiar look came across his face. It was a look I could feel as well as see. A look that comes across my face when people ask me a question I'm not sure how to answer. As I've thought about ...

Cherish the Moment: J&S - Forever
http://sjflake.blogspot.com/p/j-our-story.html
Jayze and I are both from a small town in Arizona called Snowflake. Yes, it does snow there. We grew up in the same town, went to the same schools, worked at the same grocery store, marched in the same band, sang/played in the same jazz band, and participated in one same play, but we didn't take notice of each other until we were on the same cross country team. He was a senior. I was a junior. At one of my best friend's birthday party. I still wrote him during my first year at college, then slowly stoppe...

Wednesday, May 27, 2015. AZ Trip Round 2. Jayze's family had an VERY eventful weekend, so we were able to go down to Arizona again. It was so.fun. I forgot to hand off my phone for pictures of the graduate (Katie) and all the family and friends there to support her. Just know that it was a huge crowd; she is definitely loved! Saturday morning, my other sis-in-law, Molly, went through the temple. I'm glad others got pictures. While we were there, all I felt was peace. Although it wasn't yet Memorial D...

Cherish the Moment: November 2014
http://sjflake.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 9, 2014. Is this your first? The question caught me off-guard yet again. This time though, I wasn't used to answering it in front of an entire class, so I panicked and said the first thing that came to my mind:. Uh, yes.". Then it hit me what my instructor had actually asked me and I realized I had lied. So I immediately thought about back-tracking. Well, um.". But somehow I couldn't bring myself to change my answer when all eyes were on me. So I said, "Well.yeah." and nodded. In my onli...
