Statuesque Seamstress: October 2015
http://statuesqueseamstress.blogspot.com/2015_10_01_archive.html
Monday, 19 October 2015. Fudging it: or how to create a late Edwardian hat in less than 30 minutes. Or at least, nothing truly Edwardian, which was the historically notorious period of the militant suffragettes under Emmeline Pankhurst. The organizers of the event had suggested a long skirt and suit jacket as a suitable imitation of Edwardian wear, so I reached into my closet for a green 1890s skirt and petticoat (from this. Provided the 1.5-inch brown grosgrain ribbon and a pair of barred pheasant f...

Statuesque Seamstress: March 2016
http://statuesqueseamstress.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 21 March 2016. More Purple: Girl's Easter dress. It started with a library book. I started looking through it with my daughter, and she expressed an interest in one of the dress patterns included in its pages, namely "Mary's Fancy Sash Dress". A few quick size and yardage calculations later, I found myself in the fabric store looking for coordinating fabrics that wouldn't immediately alienate a ten-year-old girl who has expressed strong dislike for any colours that she deems "girly". The hardest ...

Statuesque Seamstress: March 2015

Friday, 27 March 2015. New Look 6150 review. I am finally posting a project I finished back in the autumn, since my notoriously camera-shy daughter allowed me to corner her to photograph the finished project. For this project, we opted for the simpler, boatneck T-shirt version, with elbow-length ruched sleeves, in part because this was my first-ever knit project in nearly thirty years. We opted for a light-to-medium weight sweater knit in an abstract print. Anna C. Meyer. Recently, a friend asked me to m...

Statuesque Seamstress: April 2015
http://statuesqueseamstress.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Friday, 3 April 2015. New Look 6150 review, Part 2. After the relatively simple project that was the T-shirt version of the top. I was hoping that the wrap top would be of a similar difficulty. Short version? I chose the same jersey knit, in a different print,. And based on the amount of ease in the pattern, I opted not to do an FBA, just to test. I followed the directions as given in the pattern, although I did lengthen the sleeves about 5 cm. Also for next time:. 3/5 - Could be much more streamlined.

This summer shirt in light apple green, slightly see-through cotton-linen, is beautiful for extreme summer weather. Why has it remained barely worn all these years? And — why do I look so miserable in the photograph? It’s the sleeves, ya’ll. This Hot Patterns. Tuxedo Shirt pattern is lovely, but it’s the hottest part of summer and the sleeves. Have got to go. So lets do this:. I used th...

Thursday, 11 August 2016. Girls' blouse and shorts: McCalls M6951. Late in the summer for this post, but I finally got the photos finished for it. My daughter needed shorts and a top that was something other than a T-shirt, so we picked out McCall's M6951. Which is a blouse with two variations, shorts, pants, and an elastic-waist skirt. Anna C.
