The Centre of the Lordship of the Isles. Eilean Mor appears in surviving documents as the Isle of St Finlagan (alternative spellings of the name being Findlugan or Fionn Lugain). A charter of 1427, for example, was witnessed as being granted “apud insula sancti Finlagani in Yle” (on the island of St Finlagan in Islay). The Finlaggan Trust was formed in 1984, its main aims being to stabilise and preserve the ruins on Eilean Mor and Eilean na Comhairle, to protect and preserve the carved stones on Eilean Mor and to create and maintain an interpretive centre for visitor use and archive for information about Finlaggan. Monday to Saturday 10.30 - 4.30 until end October. Centre closed November - March. Entry to island at all times with donations very welcome.
