VENEZIA

This is a story about 8 weeks of living and working in Venice - hard I know, but someone has to do it. Sunday, October 25, 2009. Finally - the last part of the journey was a 2 week stay in London. All the major galleries were about to install significant works highlighting major artists for the Frieze Art Fair. So I missed a Baldessari retrospective at the Tate Modern. A Kiefer show at the both White Cube's. And good shows at The Haunch of Venison. An American abstract painting exhibition at Saatchi.

VENEZIA: A week to go and it's over

http://www.fionajlee.blogspot.com/2009/09/week-to-go-and-its-over.html

This is a story about 8 weeks of living and working in Venice - hard I know, but someone has to do it. Thursday, September 17, 2009. A week to go and it's over. This will probably be the last Blog as I'm off to London in 2 days time - Simone has such a comprehensive amount of information about all the art events in Venice that I think I'll just divert you to her Blog http:/ www.simoneinvenice.blogspot.com/. See you all when I get home on October 8th. Ua Alta (Flooding) at Piazza San Marco.

VENEZIA: Mona Hatoum and Robert Rauschenberg in Venice

http://www.fionajlee.blogspot.com/2009/09/mona-hatoum-and-robert-rauschenberg-in.html

This is a story about 8 weeks of living and working in Venice - hard I know, but someone has to do it. Thursday, September 17, 2009. Mona Hatoum and Robert Rauschenberg in Venice. Some of the more interesting exhibitions can be seen outside the Venice Biennale. By Mona Hatoum, at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, is without doubt one of the better ones. Human hair, leather bust, wood. 27 x 21 x 16 cm. Little cheaper than an airfare to Venice can be had by going on a virtual tour of the museum. The exhibi...

VENEZIA: More general information

http://www.fionajlee.blogspot.com/2009/09/more-general-information.html

This is a story about 8 weeks of living and working in Venice - hard I know, but someone has to do it. Tuesday, September 1, 2009. This is a garage. This is what keeps the water out from people's homes. This gorgeous art supply shop has everything for the budding artist including these beautiful pigments, sold loose , and for the studio cat - a well stocked array of tinned cat food and toothpaste. Quite random items that seem to relate only to those with a sense of humour. Dorsoduro, Venice, Italy.

VENEZIA: yet more...

http://www.fionajlee.blogspot.com/2009/09/yet-more.html

This is a story about 8 weeks of living and working in Venice - hard I know, but someone has to do it. Friday, September 11, 2009. This one is for Lucia. I'm now photographing door handles - perhaps it's time to come home? Cute window. actually all the windows are cute. A bit of something stuck on a crumbling wall. Our local fruit boat. The four of us just before Stella (left) returned to Australia. A nice exhibition - if not a tad sentimental. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Dorsoduro, Venice, Italy.

Simone in Venice: Dutch and Nordic Pavilions

http://simoneinvenice.blogspot.com/2009/09/dutch-and-nordic-pavilions.html

Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Dutch and Nordic Pavilions. The Dutch and Nordic Pavilions were probably my favourite of the whole biennale. They joined together and invited a collaborative artist team to curate the show, which featured somewhere around 30 artists. The concept behind the show was that each pavilion was a house (one was for sale and one was owned by a collector, who featured drowned in a pool! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Last Day in Venezia. Well time has flown by as they say, and today is my last day working in Venice! I haven't posted everything I wanted to yet, so I might put some more things up in the coming weeks. I'm looking forward to heading to Paris tomorrow and having a holiday! Then we're off to Madrid on Tuesday 29 September and on to London on Friday 2 October, before arriving back in Brisbane Sunday 11 October - so not that far away! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Simone in Venice: Slovenia and Luxembourg

http://simoneinvenice.blogspot.com/2009/09/slovenia-and-luxembourg.html

Sunday, September 20, 2009. Miha Strukelj (Slovenia) - I really like his work. The above is made from lego! Collision Zone: Gast Bouschet and Nadine Hilbert (Luxembourg) - I really liked this show as well. It is incredibly difficult to show in photos as it was pitch black with these blue and black videos throughout and incredibly loud noise. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Simone in Venice: Exhibition hopping

Thursday, September 17, 2009. So just in case anyone thought I wasn't working and was actually having a holiday (! I have finished uploading the list of all the exhibitions I've seen so far. I must say now I understand why I'm so overloaded visually at the moment! Can't take much more in for now. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Simone in Venice: Megs in Venezia

http://simoneinvenice.blogspot.com/2009/09/megs-in-venezia.html

Tuesday, September 1, 2009. So Megs came to Venice again this weekend, this time with her friend Yasna, who is a hoot. Above is us having the 3rd round of celebrations for my birthday - Megan wanted to get me this cake from Marks and Spencer last time but couldn't, so she brought one with her this time. We didn't have any candles but then found the monstrosity above to go with it. L to R: Mel, Fi, Megs. L to R: Stella, Toby (Stella's boyfriend) and Yasna. Megan with her 'steamed fish and veges' which was.

Simone in Venice: Mixed Bag of Photos

http://simoneinvenice.blogspot.com/2009/09/mixed-bag-of-photos.html

Monday, September 7, 2009. Mixed Bag of Photos. Above is a photo of the markets at Rialto - they are quite amazing. There are so many fresh fruit and veg stands and further on (under the building with the arches) are the seafood markets, which absolutely smell but are nonetheless intriguing. At some other markets near where we work a man had a stingray for sale the other day! Venetian cats and dogs live on tiny balconies and have fights across the tiny streets, it's really quite funny. http://simoneinvenice.blogspot.com/2009/09/italian-czech-and-slovak-pavilion.html

Monday, September 7, 2009. Italian, Czech and Slovak Pavilion. I've been a bit behind on the art front of late, so thought I best catch up. Above: Valerio Berruti's work "La figlia di Isacco" (The daughter of Isaac - I think! This was a box construction with this gorgeous paintings on the outside (a girl on a chair) and an animation of them being painted on the inside. Czech Republic and Slovak Republic Pavilion.
