Fire Island's Modern Orthodox Synagogue. How do I get to Fire Island? Ferries depart from 99 Maple Ave, Bay Shore, NY. Ferries to Ocean Beach leave from one side of the street and to Seaview and Ocean Bay Park from the other side of the street, so watch out for the signs. Check the schedules on FireIslandFerries.com. Fire Island's Modern Orthodox Synagogue. The FIM was founded in 1990 by Jim ( Yitz ) Pastreich in the living room of his (rented) house in Seaview, Fire Island, and by 1993 a modest house was rented nearby for directed use by the nascent congregation. That house was purchased in 1999 using loan-guarantees by a number of congregants, and it remains our home to this day. Corner of Homesite and Bay View, Seaview, Fire Island.

Fire Island is a 32 mile barrier island off the coast of Long Island in Suffolk County, New York. Most of Fire Island National Seashore is on the island.
