Western painting, for all the intensity it brings to the human body, hardly ever does sex. It does rape. It does violence. It does solitary nakedness. But two people having normal, mutual sex? Art leaves that to porno. For whose benefit is it expelled? And if erections are excluded to protect the public, what is it exactly the public must be protected from? 8203; The second section explores Louise Bourgeois’ sculpture ‘Fillette’ or ‘Little Girl’ (1968). Nothing grim about the folk in the North. Welcome to Station Road. July 28, 2015. July 28, 2015. This week has seen the premiere broadcast of the radio soap that I’ve been co-writing for the past fourteen months. Is a continuing radio drama about life in a fictitious and gritty Manchester street. Not only do the characters work and live on Station Road but there is also a public house, café, urban farm and a corner shop. The episode was played mid-interview, and it was pretty special not. 8220;Bleeding w...

Bad Penny: Fiction's just another word for lies
http://atlsyd.blogspot.com/2015/04/fictions-just-another-word-for-lies.html
She'll come back, as soon as she's ready. Fiction's just another word for lies. A couple of weeks ago, I performed at the John Rylands Library, a beautiful neo-Gothic library with some of the best secular stained glass in Manchester. It was an exceptional night run by First Draft. By the John Rylands. I was really excited to be one of the folks invited to perform. The library has an enormous collection - and a lot of it is stuff that's never been catalogued. Photo by Phil Benbow. Are all stories lies?

She'll come back, as soon as she's ready. The Faith of Radio Producers. A few weeks ago, when I was in the middle of producing my first ever professional BBC radio documentary, I realised this:. I have been trying to do this - EXACTLY THIS - for almost 10 years. I've gone from college radio to community radio - I've spent years working freelance at the BBC. The Faith of Children or Kumbayah and All That. I can barely believe it's true. Click on 'Show More' and see what I mean. It was an exceptional night...

January 2, 2016. January 3, 2016. This is a photo of my mother pole-dancing at Hull Pride in August. There are several things you may notice while looking at it. The muscular couple in the centre perhaps. Or maybe the woman in her underwear on the right, her handbag clamped between her thighs. But one thing I think is immediately clear; that my mum does not give a shit. I don’t know why, she’ll tell me. I’m just not bothered about what anyone else thinks. This is an attitude I’ve always admired in ...
