First Grade File Box. Sunday, 1 February 2015. We are finishing up our 'Good Night' theme. I love this one; it's amazing how many wonderful stories, songs, and projects you can find to go with it. I will post a few of the activities that we've done. I focus the use my themes on language arts and art, but often there can be ties to other curricular areas, as well. Shared Reading Songs and Poems. We learn these in the pocket chart first, then the kids add them to their 'I Can Read! Star Light, Star Bright.

First Grade File Box. Tuesday, 9 June 2015. This month, we are working on a 'Growing Things' theme. We've planted bean seeds, in clear plastic cups. I have the kids push the seeds in, right against the side of the cup. That way, we can watch them sprout and grow roots. This picture was taken only 5 days after we planted! Here's a simple sequencing activity to show how the seed grows: 1,2,3 . Grow! We used this template to do some sequence writing about how to plant a seed: How to Plant a Seed.
