Friday, August 22, 2014. Conservation in the 13th century. I attended a 2 day work seminar in a castle on the banks of the Rhine this past week, and in between the work events we got a tour of the castle. In one corner of the tower, was a stone with three lines, the lines labeled with F, H, and B:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Like the International Hobbyist on Facebook. The International Hobbyist: March 2015

Monday, March 23, 2015. A new confidence fly. I might be in midst of slicing my fingers open and burning myself on heat gun nozzles as I slowly learn the craft that is bamboo rod making, but I still found enough time to tie up a box of flies over the winter, and today was the day to put some of those new patterns to the test. A few weeks later and I hooked and landed a barbel that was over 24 inches on the same fly. (Something I only managed to do on one other occasion in the past few years.). Epic 686, ...

Tuesday, July 7, 2015. 4 days in the Soča Valley. For our annual fishing trip this year, Mark and I chose Slovenia. The Soča Valley boasts some 140 kilometers of some of the most beautiful trout rivers in the world. Just a short (and cheap! Offer a little fly shop in addition to three nicely outfitted rooms, but the town of Kobarid has a very lively town square with a selection of good cafes, restaurants, and bars. Fly shop down below, very nicely outfitted rooms and a shared kitchen upstairs. As we work...

Tuesday, March 18, 2014. The intricate and expensive world of Salmon flies. One of the people who's beautiful salmon flies I see pop up often in my Facebook feed is Stuart Hardy, and he was kind enough to answer some questions:. How long have you been fly tying, and how long have you been tying Salmon flies? What's your day job? Do you spend more time fishing, or more time tying? How many hours a week do you spend tying, roughly? When you tie, do you have a routine? I usually listen to Music, with a glas...

The International Hobbyist: An heirloom from Twin Bridges
http://www.internationalhobbyist.com/2015/07/an-heirloom-from-twin-bridges.html
Thursday, July 2, 2015. An heirloom from Twin Bridges. As beautiful as it is, it deserves to be fished, and fish I did. I probably won't be throwing weighted streamers on it, but balanced with a Fishon Agate it casts a dry on a DT5 like a dream. Last year's trip to Montana was absolutely unforgettable, and a souvenir like this is just icing on the cake. Thank you, Booboys. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The International Hobbyist: June 2014
http://www.internationalhobbyist.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 11, 2014. A custom built Epic 686 takes shape. I've been almost exclusively using my Epic 580 since opening day. Dries, nymphs, streamers, you name it. To put it simply, I love it. Everyone who's picked it up and thrown some loops came away impressed, it's a fantastic all around rod for my home river. I have other rods I love, but I always find myself reaching for that olive stick on my way out the door. Guide wraps ready for Epoxy. Union wraps ready for epoxy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
