What is this site? How does it work? FishMap.org allows you to explore fish species by watershed or to see the range of a specific species or genus. Currently the data is limited to the the continental United States and does not include fish species for the watersheds in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virigin Islands even though the Hydrologic Unit maps for these areas can be found. Currently only native freshwater species are mapped. How do I cite FishMap.org? Why doesn't Alaska have any fish?

Biology and Captive Care. There are lots of ways to collect fish. Dipnetting is very simple and can sometimes even be done from the shore without getting wet. A seine is probably the most often used tool. And there are a variety of techniques that can be applied depending on the water depth and flow. Electroshocking usually requires special permits, and obviously requires more specific equipment, but can be very effective in certain situations. Dipnetting is often imployed in shallow swampy areas.

If snorkeling's not your thing or the water's too cold, then you can make an underwater viewing bucket by cutting out the bottom of a 5-gallon plastic bucket and affixing a piece of Plexiglas in its place.
