Since 2013, I've worked as a writer and media relations staffer at Johns Hopkins Medicine. I cover a few different beats, but mainly I write about clinical and research breakthroughs. A lot of my writing has to appeal to doctors and consumers alike. It's tricky - you don't want to talk down to doctors and you don't want to overwhelm consumers. To me, the most interesting part is making the science palatable for non-scientists. This is about genetic engineering to cure cystic fibrosis.

I'm the editor of bugs&cranks.com. The site is an intersection of baseball and writing - two of my favorite things. I've written for the site. Since 2007 and been its editor since 2010. It's been an important creative outlet where I've been able to keep my writing sharp when day-job duties didn't include much writing. I started writing for Bugs&Cranks after my book came out. The site caught on and now has thousands of regular readers. We even manage to pay our writers from time to time.

For a while, I wrote for a site called The Good Men Project. My editor at GMP was great and encouraged me to write whatever I wanted. Much of what I wrote used humor to make more serious points. This piece about an Atlantic story on "The End of Men" made a lot of readers angry. This one was difficult to write. It's about poverty and the thin line that separates people who have and who don't. It still baffles me that this piece also made readers angry. Here's something a little lighter.
