Where I spent part of my teenage years and where I still have many good friends. One could find it in almost every coffee and cake shop and gastronomically speaking it was - still is - an ex-libris of this small town. One of these weekends, coming from the West region and going to Santarém. Preheat oven to 230ºC. Bake for 10 minutes. A Festa de Babette.

Monday, June 11, 2012. Moist chocolate sponge cake. This moist chocolate sponge cake exerts strong powers over me, specially after the first slice. It is so damn good! Let the hidden powers of the Gods do not stop me from repeating. Thankfully, I don't eat this cake alone. Preheat oven to 230ºC. Mix the eggs with the sugar and whisk for five minutes. Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Fresh figs and my first ice cream. My birthday is in August. This year, on that day, to celebrate here at home I made fig ice cream. My first ice cream had to be with figs! I love figs, especially fresh. I cannot resist them and I end up eating almost always not two, not three but four or more, one after another. Are usually used fresh in salads, sandwiches, cakes and jams. Fresh, grilled and even fried, they always turn out to be wonderfully delicious. Zest of one small lemon.

My grandfather Avô Gilberto died a few months after I was born so I only know him from stories and photographs. I'm told he was a larger-than-life character, quick to joke and a well-known figure in the Portuguese community. I've been doing alot of patternmaking recently, I'm going to be making a top-half of it (shoulders and bust) is going to be a red taffeta bow and the bottom will be red taffeta as well but with a ruffled lace overlay :D and I'll also be making a skirt, with satin pleats down the back, it's alot trickier to make though then I first realised!
