Paying Dumb Tax Since 2014. A Deacon Isn’t a Stepping Stone to Becoming an Elder. There is a certain tension I have picked up on in the church culture, and that is should a faithful deacon who has served faithfully for a long time automatically become an elder? Or at least desire to become one? Maybe it is just the context from where I am a part of but there seems to be this lingering tension that if you serve faithfully as a deacon that you should pursue eldership. Elder Is An Office Not A Promotion.
