A Year in Phonograph Records. Top 3 Reasons to Support Film Preservation. Some days, it feels like supporting film preservation is an uphill battle. There are always more pressing humanitarian concerns that justifiably take the spotlight. There are always, and have always been, people who question the validity of film as art. There are others who cannot stand old movies, black and white movies, silent films, or anything beyond what’s being shown in the cineplex down the street. Made 1920s audiences chuck...

A Year in Phonograph Records. Reputations Restored: Lost and Found Movies of 1929. Was released into American theatres in 1929,. Called it “indifferent and poor,” but this same film, discovered anew in a Dutch film archive, has now been hailed as one of the masterpieces of the silent era. How could each film elicit such opposing opinions? Almost every single time, the silent film version released overseas was lauded, while the talky version in America was laughed out of the theatre. Why? Now that they ha...

A Year in Phonograph Records. Lookit me, I got interviewed! Dr John Fea, a professor of history at Messiah College in PA, has a fascinating blog about using a history BA without an advanced degree. it’s really food for thought. Thoughts on history, books, and life. July 6, 2015. The anticipation is building! Well, around here anyway…. It’s only a few weeks until I release The Forgotten Flapper, and as you may have guessed, things have been a little nutty, what with all the edits, and then more edits, and yet still more edits, trying to make it as completely perfect as I can before the final shipping of books! I’m pretty excited, I have to tell you. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are comm...

Thoughts on history, books, and life. May 4, 2015. Get into the groove…. I love it when the writing is going well. Most of us do. For me, I love getting past the first draft drudge and moving into the fun part– once the pieces are basically in place, and I can begin to customize the language and let my writing flower, beefing up descriptions and polishing my slang. I’m looking forward to visiting Los Angeles again in September, where I can do more research to tweak certain scenes. What are you working on?

I’ve already found a cover designer. I ADORE. It might cost a bit more than some of the others that are out there, but I think it will be totally worth it. Also beginning to build my email list. Thoughts on history, books, and life. She set the writing aside for a while when life got in the way, but was led back to it through her interest in genealogy. Reading old microfilm stirred new life into her interest in writing, and watching early silent films struck the match. Like most other writers, most of her monthly budget is spent on coffee and books. She lives with her husband and their three gray girl cats (nicknamed The Supremes) in Edmonton, Alberta. Thoughts on history, books, and life. Monthly Archives: October 2014. October 25, 2014. All right, all right. I’m ready. I’m not sure what brass ring I was trying to grab, but I’m done. Before summer of this year, no one could convince me of the merits of self publishing. I was determined to get an agent, and that was it. I know I’m a good writer, and I knew that if I just talked to the right one, everything would fall into place. Dreams die hard, don’t they? 8221; or “Gone Girl? Are we talking better or.
