Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Monday, September 19, 2011. If You're Going To Write YA, You've Got To Stay Current. I don't just write YA; I read it. Of course I read it; I'm a teacher, and I have to know what books to recommend to my students. Folks, if you're going to write contemporary settings in YA fiction, you absolutely have to be in contact with actual teenagers. You cannot assume that what you experienced in high school is still current - because it's not. Kids only send ...

Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog: Oslo: The Folk Museum
http://lisashafer.blogspot.com/2015/07/oslo-folk-museum.html
Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Oslo: The Folk Museum. By my second day in Oslo, the stenosis in my back was making it so that I had to stop and rest every 10 minutes or so, which severely limited what I was able to see and do - and it also made me scared, sad, and downright grumpy. I really wanted to see the Viking Ship Museum. I did, however, manage to walk to - and around a small part of - the Norwegian Folk Museum. Click to enlarge the photo.). I was luc...

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Just started his Kickstarter project and it has already been funded in an hour! That should tell you that it's pretty awesome. Jed has turned classic video game characters into traditional Ukiyo-e style prints. He has also joined up with printmaker Dave Bull to print some as traditional woodblock prints. So far they have Mario cart ready to buy. The more orders, the more woodblock prints they can do. Jed has done an amazing job. Go get yourself a print, I got mine! 4 Keeping a log...

Friday, February 28, 2014. Driving, driving, flying (finally) with baby! We made it to Texas! Yes, its that time of year again, time to visit the family down in Stephenville (ok more like Morgan Mill) (that's middle of nowhere for you geography aficionados). Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes the drive from the airport. But I am getting ahead of myself. How about leaving at 6:15 the next morning? Ok, fine, how does a direct flight out of Toronto sound? The food is absolutely amazing. Then b...

40 & 40 for 40: May 2012
http://fortyfortyforty.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
40 and 40 for 40. Thursday, May 31, 2012. Book #16 - The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag. When we drove to Canada recently, I realized that there wouldn't be kids in the car (translation: I would not have to listen - sorry - GET to listen to endless hours of Laurie Berkner. Or The (new) Muppets. And I knew it was a long enough drive that it was likely D would want to snooze (translation: I could listen to books on CD, which put him to sleep anyway.). This is most definitely a series, so no one would ...

100 books in 365 days. Flavia de Luce novels by Alan Bradley. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. The Weed that Strings the Hangman’s Bag. Website for the series: http:/ www.flaviadeluce.com/. My new favorite mystery series about an 11 year old poison expert who solves murder mysteries. She’s intelligent, rational, and probably a little nuts. I love her. Can’t wait to get my hands on more. The second novel cements her personality as a headstrong, slightly egotistic, very curious genius. I'm expendabl...

A Study in Sherlock. Stories Inspired by the Sherlock Holmes Canon. Guest Post: Dana Stabenow. Posted by A Study in Sherlock. On October 21, 2011. I think I read the entire Sherlock Holmes collection before I was ten. My favorite character was always Mycroft, and it always irked me that he didn’t show up more often. When I graduated to Robert Heinlein and read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. So when Laurie and Les asked me for a story for A Study in Sherlock. Be the first to like this post. An error has oc...

A Study in Sherlock. Stories Inspired by the Sherlock Holmes Canon. Larry King, BSI? Posted by A Study in Sherlock. On October 14, 2011. When we asked Colin Cotterill to do a story, he said yes almost immediately. When we then asked if he might like to do a graphic story instead of prose, he again said yes, which makes A Study in Sherlock. One of the few anthologies out there with pictures in it. However, I think Colin may have mistaken the source of the email…. Be the first to like this post.
