le coquelicot: September 2011
http://fleurcoquelicot.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 15, 2011. Then I discovered that nice ripe melon that is frozen makes a great element in smoothies. This is not revolutionary in any sense, but it's been a tasty, practical habit. I've been making peach-melon, strawberry-melon, avocado-melon smoothies all summer. Herewith, I share my secret. This recipe is not hard-and-fast at all. 1 cup milk/unsweetened soymilk. Large handful frozen melon (I used a mixture of Cantalope and Catawba, what I happened to have on hand).

le coquelicot: it's a gas gas gas
http://fleurcoquelicot.blogspot.com/2012/03/its-gas-gas-gas.html
Friday, March 23, 2012. It's a gas gas gas. Our Vigilant, circa 1977, in October. Just before the holidays, our gas line was run in from the street, and just after the holidays, we had nice hot water baseboard heat on the first floor, powered by a cute and powerful boiler in the basement. It was a good investment, and we hope to extend the gas heat to the upstairs once our pocketbook is no longer feeling quite so bruised and thin. A gas boiler also means, eventually, a gas stove. Hurrah! It sticks out ab...

Saturday, April 30, 2011. Fiddleheads, as the edible parts are known, are the infant fronds of the majestic Ostrich Fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris. Cindy's ferns: for looking only, not for picking! Unfurling frond sheds its brown coat. While I was looking for fiddleheads, I also came across a small but healthy stand of ramps. My landscape colleague Jenna, of The Mushroom Forager. Here is a recipe for one of my favorite meals at this time of year (I know! I haven't posted a recipe in ages. 3 eggs, beaten.
le coquelicot: one out of... eight... ain't... so bad?
http://fleurcoquelicot.blogspot.com/2012/03/one-out-of-six-aint-bad.html
Wednesday, March 28, 2012. One out of. eight. ain't. so bad? Here is my eggplant and tomato germination setup:. We have an eggplant! It may be only 4 mm high, but baby, it's ALIVE and GROWING. Of course, the other 7 cubes of dirt are still doing a whole lot of nothing, but the tomatoes came up slowly over a week, so I still have hopes for the other eggplant seeds. Did I mention I've replanted the eggplant seeds three times? Regarding the correct depth at which to plant eggplant seeds. Its a gas gas gas.

Coffee * food * books * wine * life. September 29, 2009. Summer, Fall, Baking. Earlier in the summer I tried Sweet Amandine's Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. Coffee * food * books * wine * life. Juni 01, 2009. Last day of vacation. 1 I was hungry way before dinner time today (due to not eating lunch, I guess.) and I made a delicious dip. Mixed ca. 3 tablespoons of cream cheese with the juice of half a small lemon, a teaspoon of olive oil, salt, a pressed garlic clove (Only use a small one! I did not and I will smell terrible all week.) and a couple of capers. I ate it with my favorite bread ("Hamburger Kräftiges") from my favorite organic bakery. However, thi...

Saturday, January 2, 2016. Thursday, April 3, 2014. Sketch - Key West. Found this sketch while I was looking through some things today. Painted on the Casa Marina beach in Key West, FL. Not my best work. Posting anyway. When doing botanical sketches/watercolors, I'm always on the fence about the background. What to do. Leave it blank, or with a muted colorwash fill? Try to approximate the actual background in a blurry way? Wednesday, April 2, 2014. In bloom today are these Iris reticulata,. I came up wit...
