Aug - Sept '10. Wash painting developed in China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The Japanese name is Sumi-e . In Chinese the name is Shui-mo Hua . It s mostly referred to as Sumi-e. My earliest influences were Herman Fisher. In particular, this toy from their company:. Ralph Eggleston's first pencil tests. My camera stand was a Black and Decker Work Bench, and it was shot on Super 8mm. So this all dates from 1972 to 1975 when I began to take an active interest in drawing and copying images from magazines and trying to get better. James Baker, 1972.
