Or Call us on 01371 821660. Ldquo; For this is our custom at Dunmow well known, Tho’ the pleasure be ours, the bacon’s your own.”. The Flitch of Bacon takes its name from the trials that award a flitch of bacon to married couples that can swear to not having regretted their marriage for a year and a day. It does rather sound like a tradition from a different age and it is – the trials can be traced back to 1104 and the Dunmow flitch is referred to by Chaucer. For a full history. The Best Sunday Lunch
http://www.thebestsundaylunch.com/trad.html
A spontaneous trip (April 24th , 2016). To Cromer resulted in us finding this absolute gem of a pub, serving hands down the best Sunday Roast I've ever had. Set in picturesque parklands of Gunton Hall, where deer roam its nearly 1000 acres, you can't help but feel that you've stepped back in time when you arrive at the pebble dashed frontage of the Gunton Arms. I said don't practice on me. Is a gastropub with boutique rooms, housed in a renovated 16th Century Inn in Dunmow, Essex, owned by Daniel Clifford.
