Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc.: April 2006
http://steveupdate.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc. Monday, April 24, 2006. Sometimes, I even sit with the person and talk with them about their needs, listen to their struggles, witness their tears, hear and feel the pain and suffering in their voice. And then I turn away; I turn that person away. I don’t offer anything more than my ear for that brief moment, or that hour, we spent together. And then maybe I go have a beer. And I spend enough on that beer less than $1 to have fed that person for a few days. Or, am I no...

Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc.: February 2006
http://steveupdate.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc. Sunday, February 26, 2006. It seems a lot of time has been spent in hospitals recently. The Dixon blog (my last entry) talks a little of the hospital experience. On this day when we found ourselves waiting 14 hours to see the doctor. I don’t always need to go to the hospitals, but sometimes if I need to be sure to have information, specific information, specific questions answered, details about a prognosis, etc. then I need to go. This is what we did with Dixon he arr...

Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc.: December 2005
http://steveupdate.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc. Saturday, December 24, 2005. Ir children are in the school and to see them signing, 'talking' to each o. Ther, 'talking' to the teachers and others who know sign, etc. It’s a huge struggle to be deaf or hard of hearing in Africa. There is so much stereotyping to overcome. I was listening to a program on BBC (the news station I most often can receive and listen to on the radio in Ghana) recently that was talking to listeners about what. Posted by steve @ 8:28 PM. Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc.: January 2006
http://steveupdate.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc. Tuesday, January 24, 2006. I’ve been back at work for a couple of weeks. In that time, I’ve spent 7 hours at a hospital one afternoon and evening (the person with whom I was there, and who needed to see the doctor, had arrived 7 hours before I did! Anyway it’s not as busy as it sounds I’ve also had time to relax and watch some DVDs at night. The CT scan (which cost almost $200 thank you everyone who has sent open donations for making this possible) was back in my office.

Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc.: March 2006
http://steveupdate.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc. Thursday, March 23, 2006. Rainstorms are often powerful here. They are also sources of free water. Water comes from many different sources, and for refugees on the camp, it’s not something taken for granted; they don’t have a right to it it’s (usually) not free, it’s not usually flowing (and if it is you sure don’t want to drink. Then there are polytanks from which we get bath water, wash water, etc. To fill the polytanks, though, you may need to stand 1 or 2 days ...

Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc.: July 2006
http://steveupdate.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc. Sunday, July 30, 2006. A slower approach. I don’t want to leave Africa forgetting not feeling. What it is I love so much about Africa the mix, the aliveness of it the feelings that all these pictures and so many other sensations here evoke in me. The past 2 years haven’t quite been like that mostly it’s been those first three adjectives that have dominated my feelings and emotions and drained my spirit and energy. Anyway, things have been nice lately. And I’m hoping an...

Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc.: October 2005
http://steveupdate.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
Hope for Life; PCC; Buduburam; etc. Sunday, October 30, 2005. So, we’re trying to see how to go about that any suggestions anyone has will be greatly appreciated. We have been up and down to Accra and the different doctors getting documentation of her condition and the treatments she’s received in the past. Meanwhile, even when money comes available to pursue treatment here, it’s questionable what good will come from that, other than a prolongation of her suffering. Posted by steve @ 8:53 PM.
