Cassandra Gustafson: Unity Village: Phase 3: Modeling

Monday, April 12, 2010. Unity Village: Phase 3: Modeling. Two bedrooms in around 900 square feet isn't easy. The pieces of wood hanging down are an idea to create something chaotic, engage the ceiling, and define the living space from the kitchen/dining space. Thinking about book display in the living room. All books would be easily accessible by the resident. I want to leave most of the space under the co...

Thursday, October 1, 2009. So You Think You Can('t) Draw. For this assignment each of us had to draw a camera with some sense of scale and render the drawing digitally. The feeling of a drawing is completely different in photoshop than is one done by hand. One advantage of digital rendering is that you can very quickly try out color options- however- they might not print out or view on other monitors like you are seeing at the time! Thursday, July 23, 2009. Getting to see the city was the best part of it all, honestly- it was incredibly inspiring and exciting, especially since I had never been there before. Though as the end of the four weeks neared I was ready to return home, I was still sad to leave. But don't get me wrong- I enjoyed this. It often made me ask questions about things I thought I knew well. There is always more to learn! But enough of my chatter! A photo is worth a thousand words. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Thursday, March 26, 2009. Throughout time, styles and information alternate. Every time something comes back around, some portion of it is done alternatively, and somewhere in the midst of it all, sometimes there is something new. This was made clear in Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque design. Labels: history and theory of design.

Cassandra Gustafson: April 2009

Wednesday, April 29, 2009. These buildings took a look at what a structure should be in the very literal sense. It was there only to function (though they did not always do this properly) and have form, not to be dressed up with the heavy surface decoration often seen before them. They had “connotations of egalitarianism, dynamism and technological expertise” (Massey 2001). They were machines for living within. Is not a monologue a part of a dialogue?
