You don’t need my passport…. Apr 14, 2014. I decided to switch web hosts over the past week and ran into a rather upsetting situation. In an attempt to “verify” my identity, a major web hosting company requested a copy of my driver’s license or passport…but why? It may seem logical that if you give someone access to your systems, you want some proof of identity, but there are several huge problems here. These ID’s can be faked, especially if they want a scan/pic of the ID in question. Who gets to see it?
