July 22nd, 2015. What I've been reading. I read Cricket for Dummies. Which I felt would be about at my level of understanding. I had always felt like I had some idea of how cricket worked from P. G. Wodehouse and Murder Must Advertise. But then I watched some actual video of people playing cricket and could not tell what was going on at all, much less aspire to maybe one day write fic with pivotal cricket scenes. I think the book did help somewhat. I read Black Orchid. What I'm reading now. June 4th, 2015.

Eyre-y nothing - potentialities

July 13th, 2015. I reread Jane Eyre. And I checked out a copy from the library because my childhood copy is a bit elderly and fragile. It happened to be a Penguin Classics edition with footnotes, some of which were actually enlightening and some of whichwell. At the very end (spoilers if you haven't read Jane Eyre. I guess), Mr. Rochester says "Do you know, Jane, I have your little pearl necklace at this moment fastened round my bronze scrag under my cravat? This was footnoted " scrag. Follow me on tumblr.

July 19th, 2015. My proudest twitter moment. I've been making an effort to participate in the Hannibal livetweeting experience, since supposedly they factor it into the ratings somehow and it's probably not worse than nothing. Well, last night I replied to one of. S tweets and today he replied to me. Also posted on Dreamwidth. Florilegium: fanfiction by Mayhap. Circle me on Dreamwidth. Buddy me on NaNoWriMo. Wednesday reading — sequitur - potentialities
http://mayhap.livejournal.com/308983.html
July 29th, 2015. What I've been reading. I read The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil. Which has a highly compelling title. Said beard is the irruption of chaos into a world of disturbingly perfect monotony, along the lines of Camazotz from A Wrinkle in Time. There are all kinds of weirdly perfect details in the artwork that make it oddly compelling. I read Stolen Magic. The sequel to A Tale of Two Castles. I read A School for Brides. The sequel to Patrice Kindl's last book, Keeping the Castle. Buddy me on Na...

March 1st, 2017. HBO Partners with Major League Baseball to Promote Game of Thrones Season 7. Although I think A Song of Ice and Fire would pair better with American football, and not just because. Posts about football weekly during the season. I really want an AU where all the provinces of Westeros have football teams, or possibly are. Also posted on Dreamwidth. February 26th, 2017. Wednesday reading — all over the map - potentialities
http://mayhap.livejournal.com/307535.html
July 8th, 2015. Wednesday reading all over the map. What I've been reading. I read A Strong Right Arm: The Story of Mamie "Peanut" Johnson. They interviewed her briefly before a Royals game sometime last month and I was fascinated. This is a juvenile biography but not one of those rote paint-by-numbers ones; it's well-written and has a distinct voice. Mamie Johnson was the first and only woman to pitch in the Negro Leagues. I reread Night Train to Memphis. I read an actual paper copy of xkcd: volume 0.

Wednesday reading — balls and strikes - potentialities
http://mayhap.livejournal.com/308044.html
July 15th, 2015. Wednesday reading balls and strikes. What I've been reading. Ernest Cline's new book. I'm not entirely sure if I think it's objectively not as much fun as Ready Player One. Or if both books just rely on a schtick so similar that whichever one I read first would seem delightful and whichever one I read second would feel like a retread. I think all the retro references make more sense inside Ready Player One. It's something you can do when you're making a video game that makes no sense whe...
