Ik ben in Amsterdam geboren, en een tijd getogen, maar meer dan twintig jaar lang was ik Suzuki dwarsfluitdocent en docentenopleider ‘down under’, in Nieuw-Zeeland, het land van onze tegenvoeters, waar het zomer is als het hier vriest en donker wordt als hier de zon opkomt. Muziekstudie: Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam; Suzuki Institute Matsumoto, Japan. Uitvoerend musicus: o.a. Studio Laren, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Bach Musica New Zealand. Toen ik niet lang na mijn opleiding aan het Amsterdams Conservatorium een concert hoorde door kinderen die les hadden volgens de ideeën van de Japanse violist Schinichi Suzuki, was ik diep onder de indruk van hun muzikaliteit en technische vaardigheid. En vooral van het rustige, vrolijke zelfvertrouwen dat ze aan de dag legden en hun totale concentratie bij het spelen. Het was duidelijk dat ze heel veel plezier hadden. Zo wil ik ook lesgeven, wist ik toen. Al heel lang geef ik nu.
