Saturday, May 30, 2015. How Did That Get There? For every aircraft owner, the annual inspection is a big deal. It means downtime, expense, and angst (over what might be discovered and the cost to repair it). A good relationship with a trustworthy, knowledgeable shop is the best way to mitigate the most unpleasant aspects of the annual inspection. Since Warrior 481 adopted me in 2004, I have interacted principally with two shops: Conrad Aero. In Three Rivers, MI and Boshart Enterprises. In Batavia, NY.

Photographic Logbook: Gummy Flight and the Practicality of General Aviation
http://warrior481.blogspot.com/2010/07/gummy-flight.html
Friday, July 30, 2010. Gummy Flight and the Practicality of General Aviation. 5G0 (LeRoy, NY) - PCW (Port Clinton, OH) - AZO (Kalamazoo, MI). AZO - HAI (Three Rivers, MI) - 5G0. This is an interesting notion to me. When I began flying, I never tried to ascribe a practical value to my avocation. For me, flying holds immense emotional value. Quantifiable, practical value? Perhaps not, but value nonetheless. Parents will understand. When I experienced that dismay, I realized that I had proven my own point a...

Sunday, April 19, 2015. Future Memories Made and Captured. SDC (Sodus, NY) - IPT (Williamsport, PA) - DSV (Dansville, NY) - SDC. Daddy, can I bring my camera? The first breakfast flight for me and The Bear of 2015 was postponed as we searched the house in earnest for her little red Kodak camera. I found it in her "jewelry" drawer, where it had lain fallow under a pile of Silly Bands since our flight to the Thousand Islands. Photo by The Bear. In hindsight, it is clear to me that having longer arms grants...

Photographic Logbook: The 2003 National Air Tour Comes to Kalamazoo
http://warrior481.blogspot.com/2003/09/2003-national-air-tour-comes-to.html
Monday, September 8, 2003. The 2003 National Air Tour Comes to Kalamazoo. The National Air Tour flew again on September 8, 2003 - just in time for the Centennial of Flight. As before, Kalamazoo was the second stop for the tour of roughly 25 vintage aircraft. Kent, Dave, Daniel, and I played hooky from work to walk amongst these magnificent travelers from another age. The instrument panel of the Ryan M-1 is reminiscent of (though more elegantly appointed than) the one in the Spirit of St Louis. A 1931 Sti...

Photographic Logbook: About
http://warrior481.blogspot.com/p/obligatory-biographical-mumbo-jumbo.html
I am a private pilot based at the Williamson-Sodus Airport (KSDC) on the south shore of Lake Ontario in Upstate NY. I also identify as a husband, father, mass spectrometrist, amateur photographer, smart alec, dyed-in-the-wool geek, and hobbyist author. What I am not. That others will learn from my errors and not repeat them . What is this blog about? This blog is also an attempt (somewhat feeble, granted) to share my flying experiences with others. That's the most common question I hear from people who l...

Saturday, February 28, 2015. Living the Dream" on Alton Bay. SDC (Sodus, NY) - LCI (Laconia, NH) - B18 (Alton Bay, NH) - SDC. Finished with my lunch at Shibley's at the Pier. In Alton Bay, I stood and absorbed the view outside the window, contemplating my airplane parked below on the frozen surface of Lake Winnipesaukee. How was it landing on ice? Inquired a neighboring diner. I've landed on ice many times over the years," I answered. "But it always had pavement under it before," I added with a smile.

This is my [airplane]. There are many like it, but this one is mine.". Meet N21481, my 1979 PA-28-161 Piper Warrior. No, she doesn't have a name. I've been criticized for failing to name her over the years (he says looking pointedly at his wife), but nothing ever really stuck. I bought Warrior 481 in Guthrie, OK on March 11, 2004. My buddy Dave always said she looked good in the air. This photo was taken from Dave's Decathlon by my wife on October 10, 2004. Panel as of December, 2015. A King KT-76A trans...
