Whale Ears and other Wonderings: June 2014
http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 9, 2014. Last week was his little sister’s turn to Move Up to Middle School, and tonight, Brian moves up to High School. We have a successful 8th grade graduate! Before we took off for the school, I took a few photos of Brian. It was hot out. Right at 117F when we stepped out into the shining brightness. It’s amazing he could peel his eyes open. Showing off his pearly whites (fresh dental cleaning yesterday – *SHINE! Waiting his turn…. Finally, the moment that Brian’s been waiting for! Honor...

Whale Ears and other Wonderings: July 2014
http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 21, 2014. We are such tourists…. We are back in the US and now have to try all the foods that we haven’t had access to for too long! One of my favorite potato chips are Utz’s Crab chips. They sound weird, but are flavored with Old Bay Seasonings and are very tasty. Honor and I went to the store today and found another brand of chips, Zapp’s Spicy Cajun Crawtators. How the heck could I resist? Not bad, but nowhere as yummy as the Crab Chips! Links to this post. Thursday, July 17, 2014. And we...

Whale Ears and other Wonderings: January 2015
http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Time for some cold fun! But work was in. Boo.). At almost 6am this morning, I got a text from the kids’ school giving notice of a 2 hour delay. I reset my alarm and went back to sleep. A while later we got further notice that school was canceled. Our county was on the ball. Apparently school SHOULD have been canceled all over the DC area today! View of the front yard this morning. And the back… before we tromped all over it. We were outside until sunset, maybe 4 hours. We ...

Whale Ears and other Wonderings: February 2015
http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 23, 2015. Poor little mouse, climbing the bricks in the living room. Why do they have to be so darn cute? Convincing it to not run down hill at speed was a little tricky. Brian had a lot of homework to do, but Honor got some play time in. Monday had a 2-hour delay, but it was still a school day. Honor did some sledding, and she made a little snowman too. Eventually, she decided that his hands might be cold, so she let him borrow her gloves. Links to this post. Sunday, February 22, 2015.

Whale Ears and other Wonderings: December 2013
http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 28, 2013. I hope that everyone had a lovely and very Merry Christmas! Here are some photos from our morning! These guys managed to resist the urge to open prezzies before morning…. Ready to dash into the living room! New gaming console to share. Honor gives the kitties some treats. Brian gets a book that he’s been wanting and Honor and Pixie demonstrate toe washing techniques. Fortunately, the box is big enough for both of them. Brian LOVES his new slippers and the number keypad too!

Whale Ears and other Wonderings: April Birthday Girl
http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2015/05/april-birthday-girl.html
Monday, May 11, 2015. April brings us Honor’s birthday. We really mixed her up this year as we had plans on her actual birthday – which was ok with her, we asked – so we had multiple days of celebrating. On one day, after piano lessons, we went out to Coal Fire pizza. Good choice! Brother and sister goofing off at the music school. Brian practicing before his lesson. Perfectly good pizza, but she has to try the lemon! It was really good, and the service was beyond excellent! We’ll definitely go back.

Whale Ears and other Wonderings: October 2014
http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 31, 2014. On the Night Before Halloween…. Ninja really wanted to know if we were finally going to get around to carving the pumpkins? Brad managed to get away from work a little earlier than normal, the kids had homework done, and I had thrown a batch of chili in the crock pot, so we got set up to carve our jack-o-lanterns. The cats were very curious. Pumpkins were hard to come by our last couple of years and so we haven’t had a chance to do this in quite some time! It has fangs like this!

Whale Ears and other Wonderings: May 2014
http://whaleears.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 17, 2014. Something that I’ve been busy with… finally finished! One hundred percent Ninja approved. Honor loves it too, which is good, because it is for her! Ninja kept me from spreading it out very well, but it is about the proper size for a twin bed. A close up of the border. And close-ups of some of the squares. Each square is different. I had a book of granny squares and had fun trying each pattern. By the time I ran out of these scrap yarns, I’d made 54 squares. Enough for 9x...I have ...

Whale Ears and other Wonderings: December 2014

Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Walking Down Main Street. After the snow and the bitterly cold days around Thanksgiving day, we finally lucked into a fairly nice day and decided to go take a walk down the historic Main Street area of Ellicott City. Founded in 1772, this place has been here for a good long while. (No snickering … you, Europeans… I’m looking at you… this is old stuff, at least it is for us! It was moved from its original position, but preserved as best as possible otherwise. See… gorge...
