For the Love of First Grade: December 2014
http://fortheloveoffirst.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
December 3, 2014. Elf Antics and Ideas for your Elf. Do you have an elf who comes to your classroom? Of course you do! Here are some of the antics our mischievous classroom elf was up to last year. He decided to get stuck in our "stuck on a word strategies" wall and literally needed help! After spending the day stuck, he was awfully tired and napped all day long. Look who found our Band-aid stash! He loves to read too! Showing his Polar Express enthusiasm! Trying to make us laugh at our class picture!

August 23, 2015. First Week Plans and a B2S Assessment FREEBIE! Well the time has come. Plans have been done. Bring on the first week of school! A few weeks ago I shared with you the books I read the first week. If you missed that post find it HERE. I am not required to type up my plans but wanted to share what I do the first week. Even if it is just written out in my handy dandy Erin Condren teacher planner. I tend to write out as much as I need to remember, with a little code here or there. I deem this...

September 24, 2014. Wrapping up Writer's Workshop. Today's post is short. Just like how our end to Writer's Workshop happens. I came across this turn-in accountability system a few years ago from my friend Susan at TGIF. In previous years I had used a desk folder with a red and green dot on the inside. Red=finished, green=in progress. I rarely saw my student's writing and didn't feel it had any importance. Then I fell in love. Simplicity at its best! Links to this post. September 22, 2014. We've been wor...

April 14, 2015. Do I Always Teach With Food? Why do I always use food to teach? Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I guess you can say I love food and my kids do too! Plus, it just makes learning that much more fun! For introducing adjectives this week, I used Brainpop, my anchor chart and apples. The kids used their 5 senses. They wrote down one adjective on a sticky note. We added them all to our chart. If you need help introducing adjectives (or any other grammar) check out my anchor chart pack.

For the Love of First Grade: Numbering Your Kiddos: A Time Saving Tool
http://fortheloveoffirst.blogspot.com/2015/08/numbering-your-kiddos-time-saving-tool.html
August 16, 2015. Numbering Your Kiddos: A Time Saving Tool. As a teacher it sometimes seems overwhelming with all that we have to keep up with! I wanted to share with you one system I have put into place to help my classroom run a little more smoothly. Each year I take my roster and assign a specific number to each student. I deem this as their "magic number" and it sticks with them the entire year. I tend to put numbers on many things in my classroom. August 19, 2015 at 11:47 AM. I'm Lindsay, a first gr...

For the Love of First Grade: What Books Do I Use for the First Weeks?
http://fortheloveoffirst.blogspot.com/2015/08/what-books-do-i-use-for-first-weeks.html
August 4, 2015. What Books Do I Use for the First Weeks? The first 2 weeks of school are probably some of the most important days of the entire school year. They are days when you create a positive environment. They are days when you form a class family. They are days when you teach the rules and procedures. They are days when you set the foundation for the year. Many of the things I mentioned above are taught with books. Let's start off with a few of the books I use week 1. Labels: back to school. Div a...
