Fly Rod Nimrod: September 2012

http://flyrodnimrod.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Chronicles of a bumbling fly fisherman in Seattle. Saturday, September 22, 2012. My year one anniversary of really learning to flyfish is this month. I still need to reflect on and write about that. It's been an amazing year learning to cast, read water, scout new locations, study fish, etc. On a happier note, I chaperoned my daughter's 7th grade school trip to Lake Crescent, nestled in the Olympic National Park. Below is a photo I took the first evening looking West. Monday, September 3, 2012. Having bu...

Fly Rod Nimrod: July 2015

http://flyrodnimrod.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Chronicles of a bumbling fly fisherman in Seattle. Friday, July 3, 2015. The Galeton River right now is very low. A river runs through it, but very slowly. The highway west out of Bozeman from the airport takes you right to the Galeton and by early afternoon we were itching for some fishing. We exited the highway, double-backed a few miles and found a pull-off where we could switch to wading boots, gear-up and start casting within an hour or so of landing. Cast, sink, sink, bam! Our fishing lodge expecte...

Chronicles of a bumbling fly fisherman in Seattle. Wednesday, January 2, 2013. My first year with a flyrod. Magazine each year publishes the 1st place winner of the Robert Traver Fly-Fishing Writing Award. A compilation of these wonderful fishing stories is available in a book entitled, In Hemingways Meadow. Last year I entered the contest with a submission about my first year of fly-fishing. I didnt win, and when I opened the Autumn 2012 edition of FlyRod and Reel magazine to see Dave Karczynskis. Was a...

Fly Rod Nimrod: July 2013

http://flyrodnimrod.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Chronicles of a bumbling fly fisherman in Seattle. Sunday, July 21, 2013. I headed out this afternoon to the North and the Middle Forks of the Snoqualmie. The weather is cloudy and cool in the morning and then magnificent in the afternoon starting around 1 pm. The North Fork is at about 130 cfs and the Middle Fork is about 410 cfs. They are nicely wadeable now. Not much to report on the North Fork. I hooked a couple of small cutthroat and rainbows but landed none. But it was a great day on the river.

Fly Rod Size Lures

I was born and reared on a farm in West Virginia. Hunting and fishing was all I ever knew until I was about 12 years old and we moved to Barberton, Ohio. In later years when I lived in Ohio, I learned that catching sunfish, trout, and such on flies was the way to go. My favorite fly was a black or gold ant. At first, I did not have a fly rod so an old fisherman showed me how to work with a regular rod and reel. He gave me a wood egg-shaped bobber that was about as big as an egg! To get your listing in th...

Fly Rod Nimrod

Chronicles of a bumbling fly fisherman in Seattle. Saturday, June 3, 2017. Happy Opening Day 2017. Wandering upstream along the Touchet in Lewis and Clark State Park , I happened upon a gap in the brush revealing a deep pool with an enormous submerged tree. A swift current slowed just above it, creating a seam in the water and then a tranquil piece of water. False cast, false cast and there. The fly was headed just where I wanted it. Thanks for playing," the trout seemed to say. I named this one Dayton.

Fortsæt til primært indhold. Fortsæt til sekundært indhold. August 7, 2015. Fortsat god sommer derude. Juli 28, 2015. Juli 13, 2015. Ankommet til p-...
