Sights and scenes from the Toronto's Don River valley. Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Bring Back the Don in Limbo. At the May city council meeting, there was a debate about the fate of the city's advisory committees. The discussion which spanned late Wednesday night and Thursday morning was long and convoluted. Several councillors stood up and made passionate defences for some of the committees. This mirrored the impassioned pleas ( which fell on deaf ears. The National Post has weighed in with a pro/con debate.

Sights and scenes from the Toronto's Don River valley. Tuesday, January 15, 2013. The Legacy of Bring Back the Don. Now that the Task Force to Bring Back the Don. Is for all intents and purposes a dead duck, it's worth taking a few moments to look back over the 20 odd years of its existence and wonder what if any legacy came from it. Don Watcher: February 2013
http://donwatcher.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Sights and scenes from the Toronto's Don River valley. Saturday, February 16, 2013. East Don Trail Environmental Assessment. A public meeting was held in a school gym close to the east Don in Flemingdon Park. It just happened that I captured two of the three councillors who attended this meeting in this picture. Can you spot them? I attended a public meeting this week that was the first in a series to talk about a proposed trail. On the down side, the trail will inevitably lead to a decline in the qualit...

Sights and scenes from the Toronto's Don River valley. Friday, April 22, 2011. Bring Back the Don on the Chopping Block. OK folks, the fix was in. Despite 80 emails and 42 (28) deputants, the Executive Committee decided to pass the item to axe the advisory committees. To allow for more discussion but this was voted down 6-4 (amazingly, 3 councillors sided with her against the mayor). So now our only alternative for recourse is to hope for a reversal at city council on May 17. Some recent goings on at...

Parks and Gardens in Toronto
http://www.torontoparks.com/index.htm
Parks and Gardens in the Toronto area. Photography by Margaret McRae. Toronto has wonderful facilities for communing with nature. Bicycle trails and pathways join most of the river valleys and follow the Lake Ontario shoreline. Most neighbourhoods have convenient access to parks and ravines. Many of my photos were taken on outings with the Toronto Field Naturalists. And with Friends of the Don East. The TFN organizes a variety of walks throughout the year with experienced leaders. Includes Etobicoke Cree...
