Down Mexico Way: May 2008
http://foleymission.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 24, 2008. Very early Wednesday, May 21 we left the MTC. For a rainy drive to the Salt Lake International Airport. We rode in a shuttle with 6 young elders and one young sister, all very excited. The driver was a fun young man who had served a mission in Canada. The first thing we did after we lugged all of our bags into the airport was to weigh them again. We knew we would. The flights were on time and uneventful other than being very full. We arrived on schedule and made it through customs...

Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Stroll on the Manzana on the night of the Jones' arrival. A visit to the Visitors' Center. Saturday we grabbed a mitro, two metros and headed for the Zocolo. We went to the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, lunch at the roof of the Gran Hotel (very yummy), went to the Ideal Bakery (also yummy) and then to the Bellas Artes buliding. The Zocolo from the roof of the Gran Hotel. Beautiful tiffany glass ceiling at the Gran Hotel. The Cactus Garden behind the National Palace.

Saturday, May 16, 2009. The Ravages of Porcine Influenza. It is hard to believe that a city of 22 million people could be shut down, but that's what happened during the swine flu crisis here. First the schools shut down, then the museums, restaurants and libraries. Next came the churches, including ours. Government buildings and all non-essential businesses followed. The local temple workers were told to stay home and the Temple missionaries covered the shifts. The Temple closed at 4 pm everyday. Their a...

Friday, August 22, 2008. The People We Meet. One of the things I have enjoyed so much about our mission is the wonderful and interesting people we meet. One of these people is Jean Scott. I am writing about Jean today because she and her husband Dave left to go home last week and she has been on my mind. She was named as the first head of the Women’s Center at BYU. Shortly after she started the Women’s Center she met Dave Scott on a blind date. She had not dated nor was interested in dating, bu...Since I...

Monday, December 29, 2008. Our Holidays in Mexico. The Holidays in Mexico. We are just completing our first holiday season in Mexico City and it has been a very memorable one. The Mexican people love color and lights and celebrations and there have been plenty of all. Our holiday celebration began with a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at the Garvins. Everyone contributed to the feast and it was quite traditional: appetizers, turkey and ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, corn and peas, salad, or...

A Kid’s Life. This is full of my excitement. Archive for June, 2010. School’s out is now getting boring:(. Don't think of this as an inspiration parents. DON'T! In that caption I’m serious. Any kids reading this don’t remind your parents. Parents reading this, I’ve had experience. Do not do this to your child! That is keeping me from doing this everyday. We have to one square each category a day. Sigh sigh sigh. Do I look happy in that photo? June 17, 2010. Blog at WordPress.com. A Kid’s Life.

Sunday, June 21, 2009. We recently had another great experience with the visit of Sean, Vivian and family. It was so fun to be able to share our beloved Mexico City with them. The first day we were off to the Zocalo and the Templo Mayor. We wrote about the templo in an earlier post that you can check it out below if you would like. It was a fun day and we were able to show the family many of our favorite things in Mexico City. Waiting for the Metro. No seats on the train. Sage Brock and Ryan. We did some...

A Kid’s Life. This is full of my excitement. Camping With My Family (For the first time of our own). On Friday we went camping. It was a little rush, since we coudln’t get the fire or stove started. We found sticks for the fire and we had matches but, we coudn’t get it started because of the wind kept blowing the matches fire out. The camping ground was called Dovre. If you say it, it sounds like Dover. Here is a picture with my dad there. Here is one that josh and me at the waterfall before we left camp.
