follow your heart woodworking: March 2015

Wednesday, March 25, 2015. I am sounding like a broken record (do those of you under 40 even know what that means? In that I have not kept up with my blogging. I hope to do that now that we are back from vacation. We just had to escape the snow here on Prince Edward Island. This is our first winter here and at Christmas time there was very little snow. We were a little bit smug and maybe even laughed once or twice at Ontario, where we moved from, because they had much more snow than us. Please Don't Make...

Monday, July 13, 2015. Living Room Renovation - Part 1 - Overview. Since moving last fall to Prince Edward Island we have renovated the guest bedroom and the main bathroom in our almost 100 year old home. I do hope to post more about the history of our house in the coming months. We were told, through the real estate listing when we saw this house, that it was most likely 60 years old. Our research has shown that it is much older than that. I wrote about the pocket door before. Unfortunately, over the ye...

Thursday, May 28, 2015. Bathroom Renovation - Part 3 - New Flooring. Back to the bathroom renovation. apologies again for the thousands of you patiently waiting for an update (LOL). The new wiring is in for lights and my hair dryer outlet and now to do the floor. This is what we had, it was a sheet of flooring that we found to be glued down very tightly to some type of sub-floor. But because it was so firmly attached we thought we would just cover it with another flooring. See part 4 here. At this point ...

Thursday, February 19, 2015. Getting the Bed Upstairs. I am late on posting this, but really should tell the story of getting our bed into our bedroom. The first night we got here (November 1st, only 3 1/2 months ago), we slept on our queen size mattress in the dining room. Maybe we slept a couple days there, I don't remember, but the problem was how to get the bed upstairs? We have a nice old staircase, but it's very narrow and very compact and the ceiling is quite low around it. So, although it's there...

Sunday, July 26, 2015. Living Room - Part 3 - The Walls. I'm continuing to blog about our living room changes. Some of what I am writing may appear to be out of order. We worked on parts of the bay window. The walls and the pocket door all at the same time, but I am choosing to blog about them separately. So in the photos, if you see some walls painted and some not, that's the reason why. The wallpaper was soaked with water from a spray bottle and scraped off with a wide plastic scraper. It came off ...

follow your heart woodworking: ANNOUNCEMENT - New Workshop!
http://followyourheartwoodworking.blogspot.com/2015/08/announcement-new-workshop.html
Friday, August 7, 2015. ANNOUNCEMENT - New Workshop! As my regular readers will know, I had a beautiful workshop in Ontario, but moved last fall to Prince Edward Island where I have been without one. We have just purchased a house on the Main St. in the small town where we live. It is just around the corner, a four minute walk from our house. This will be my new workshop and, in time, hopefully contain a small place to sell my creations from. We take possession today! August 7, 2015 at 8:51 AM. I wanted ...

Sunday, August 30, 2015. Enlarging the Front Entryway. While husband was throwing dirt into the excavated holes that were dug for the water leak repair. I started removing a wall at the front where my retail shop will be. My daughter helped for a couple of hours by removing some drywall screws, I did the rest of the dismantling of the wall myself. Here is a rough sketch of the front of the house to give you some perspective of where I am working:. The bedroom looked like this in the real estate photo:.

Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Living Room - Part 2 - Bay Window. First up in the living room was to neaten up the bay window and the wall it is on. There was flowered wallpaper on the walls in the living room that we had to strip. We sprayed the wallpaper with water and scraped it off with a large scraper. Under the wallpaper was a navy blue paint and under that some panel board. Actually the blue looks like a distressed finish. The baseboard heaters looks so much better now that they are painted white! Headin...

http://followyourheartwoodworking.blogspot.com/2015/08/starting-to-renovate-workshop.html
Saturday, August 8, 2015. Starting To Renovate the Workshop. We went to the new house that will be my workshop as soon as we got the keys Friday afternoon. I was excited to see it again. Unfortunately it looked dirtier than I remembered, but anyway, I knew it was a project and that it needed a lot of work. Speaking of stick-on tiles, they are in all of the upstairs 3 bedrooms and hallway. Laura was helping to scrape them off with an ice scraper. The plywood underneath is very sticky. anyone k...Since thi...

follow your heart woodworking: January 2015

Wednesday, January 28, 2015. I see people adding pocket doors and barn doors to their houses, our house has the real thing. a 4' wide pocket door between the living room and dining room. We will be redoing this room and taking down the wallpaper. When we get to that point, we will most likely have to take down the trim and maybe even part of the wall, to get the door "back on track.". Speaking of trim, the moldings in most rooms of this house are fabulous! Too Much Time on My Hands. What's in the Attic?
