Foodie Fancies: The big FAT misunderstanding and a recipe for figgy flapjacks
http://foodiefancies.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-big-fat-misunderstanding-and-recipe.html
Monday, January 12, 2015. The big FAT misunderstanding and a recipe for figgy flapjacks. Fat and the role it plays in our diet and in our bodies has been in the news a lot lately. From the way it's been reported in the media, the current prevailing wisdom is that fat is no longer a culprit in the fight against obesity. We've been getting it wrong all along. The new villains are sugar and refined carbohydrates. There are other options. Flaxseed and flaxseed oil are both high in omega 3. Flax is gr...3: Su...
Foodie Fancies: The Great Escape: Christmas in Prague
http://foodiefancies.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-great-escape-christmas-in-prague.html
Tuesday, January 6, 2015. The Great Escape: Christmas in Prague. Well, how was your Christmas? We went to Prague for a week and had lots of self-indulgent fun and much-needed rest and relaxation. It was our first visit to the city (and indeed to the Czech Republic) and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone contemplating a few days away. 3: It's very affordable. If you're thinking of visiting, here are some of the things that we enjoyed best while we were there:. Tip: if you're planning on visitin...
Foodie Fancies: Honesty and emotion on Lena Dunham's Girls and the much-needed comfort of cookies
http://foodiefancies.blogspot.com/2015/02/honesty-and-emotion-on-lena-dunhams.html
Monday, February 23, 2015. Honesty and emotion on Lena Dunham's Girls and the much-needed comfort of cookies. I've been a fan of the TV series Girls from the very beginning. There have been many moments when Lena Dunham's (sometimes brutally) honest depiction of just how self-absorbed and unaware young women can be struck a chord and made me realise how much I've grown up since my early twenties. I haven't enjoyed this latest series as much. Or at least I wasn't enjoying it until I watched episode 5.
Foodie Fancies: My week in dinners
http://foodiefancies.blogspot.com/2015/02/my-week-in-dinners.html
Tuesday, February 10, 2015. My week in dinners. I don't know if there was ever a time when food was simple. The ingredients we cook with, the way in which we cook them and how we eat have always been indicators of status. Here in Ireland, the high society who lived in grand houses dined on the finest foods for centuries while peasants subsisted on potatoes, oats and hardy vegetables such as carrots, parsnips, cabbage and kale. So, here is my week in dinners. You can find the recipe for this soup here.
Foodie Fancies: A good movie, a bad memory and a great cake
http://foodiefancies.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-good-movie-bad-memory-and-great-cake.html
Friday, February 6, 2015. A good movie, a bad memory and a great cake. I went to the cinema to see The Theory of Everything. Last weekend. It’s the story of a young woman who falls in love with a young Stephen Hawking and the struggles she faces as they build a relationship, a family and a life together as his body deteriorates and eventually gives way to severe disability. Most of you will know. Eddie Redmayne (who plays Hawking) is so convincing at portraying the confusion he feels when he realises he ...

My Christmas Cake | The Fuzzy Times

An appreciation of good cake. Laquo; Red Onion Marmalade. November 29, 2011 by Arlene. This year is my second attempt at making a Christmas cake. I am not a fan of fruit cakes at all, but I made one to bring home for Christmas last year and it went down a storm. Though that could be something to do with the copious amounts of rum I dribbled into the cake during the weeks leading up to Christmas! At least I hope so, as two extra cakes have been requested this year! Juice of 1.5 oranges. 150g plain self-ra...

Red Onion Marmalade | The Fuzzy Times
https://fuzzytimes.wordpress.com/2011/11/21/red-onion-marmalade
An appreciation of good cake. Laquo; Tomato, Bean and Bacon Soupy Stew. November 21, 2011 by Arlene. Christmas baking has taken my kitchen by storm, and I’ve already started testing recipes for preserves and chutneys to give as gifts. I’ve made red onion marmalade before, and it has always been very well received. A deliciously sweet, yet savoury preserve that is perfect in cheese sandwiches, or dolloped on your morning eggs. This recipe is heavily based on one from BBC Good Food. 140g dark brown sugar.

Just another WordPress.com site. About Caitrionaw’s Blog. April 20, 2012. Following a Saturday morning shopping expedition in the city centre I met up with himself at San Lorenzo’s for an early lunch. I’d heard reports of good food being dished up here so I thought it would be worth trying it. It was only 12:55 and we were the first to arrive. MrW isn’t too keen on being the only diner in a restaurant but I managed to coax him inside! It wasn’t long before a few more diners ventured in. The mains came sh...

Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Nosebleeds, twitchy feet and backache - dispelling the naiveté of the newly pregnant. Before I got pregnant, I thought pregnancy would be a wonderful experience. I thought I’d enjoy feeling my body change as a whole new life grew inside me. How naïve was I? Don’t get me wrong. There are lots of enjoyable moments. Good food and a warm kitchen are what makes a house a home. I always tried to make my home like my mother’s, because Mom was magnificent at stretching a buck when it came to decorating and food. Like a true Italian, she valued beautification in every area of her life, and I try to do the same. Sometimes we should express our gratitude for the small and simple things like the scent of the rain, the taste of your favorite food, or the sound of a loved one’s voice. Designed by Elegant Themes.
