An appreciation site for all things Japanese. Phantom of the Opera – Japanese. To my severe disappointment, I did not get to see Phantom of the Opera in Japan. Because it was so far away from me. However, I’ve been looking up the Japanese version of this famous musical and I have come to really like Eiji Akutagawa’s version of Music of the Night. He hits the notes and sounds incredible. Fuji TV Tour | Nippon Phile
https://nipponphile.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/fuji-tv-tour
An appreciation site for all things Japanese. For 500 yen, you get a tour of Fuji TV. The tour itself is nothing special, but the 500 yen does include access to a tower view of the cityscape. On a good day, you’ll catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji. This cost is much cheaper than if you went up Tokyo Tower or Mori Tower in Roppongi. But don’t forget that you can also go up Shinjuku’s Government Building. I wish I had known that. Sigh. The distinctive architecture for the Fuji TV building. 2 responses ». Childre...

An appreciation site for all things Japanese. Astro Boy Movie 2009. I had seen movie posters for Astro Boy. And had erroneously assumed that it was a Japanese film. It is not. Though it was released in October 2009, it has taken me this long to finally see it. Apparently it is the work of former DreamWorks and Disney staff. And animated by Hong Kong-based Imagi. My 7-year-old nephew watched the movie and was immensely entertained by it. There are many funny, laugh-out-loud moments. And also, anim...I was...

An appreciation site for all things Japanese. Monthly Archives: August 2010. I just saw this little kid Yuto Miyazawa shreddin’ his guitar and he is awesome. If he’s this good at this age, imagine how great he’ll be in just a few more years. He’s already touring with his idol Ozzy Osbourne. Hopefully he’ll stay grounded. Check it out. A friend showed me shogi. Time As I commented to my friend, there is no safety when ghosts can fight in battle! No pieces are gone forever. As you can imagine, the game...

An appreciation site for all things Japanese. LaLa Port – Tokyo Bay. I didn’t realize that there was more than one LaLa Port. When I looked online, I found only LaLa Port Toyosu. Where I had my jrock adventure. But Marie mentioned there was one in Minami-Funabashi, so yesterday she took me there. At Nishi-Funabashi station, you transfer to the Keiyo Line going towards Minami-Funabashi (there are no stops between these two stations, so that makes for a quicker train ride). LaLa Port Tokyo Bay. An appreciation site for all things Japanese. A friend showed me shogi. Aka Japanese chess. I like playing chess so we played an actual game as the demonstration. In general, the pieces and the movements are similar; however, there are some major differences that make shogi much more challenging. Trying to remember which piece was which is hard if you’re not already familiar with the kanji, but don’t let that deter you from learning the game. 2 responses ».
