A Woman's Life Changing Journey. Newer posts →. The Ecuadorian Legend of El Panecillo. June 5, 2016. By Mary Anne Dorward. This is a legend about El Panecillo, the famous hill in Quito. It apparently got its name because the shape reminded the Spaniards of the bread baked in Andalusia. Before the conquistadors arrived, the hill was known as Yavirac. The Incas celebrated Inti Raymi, the Festival to the Sun there. During the solstice, people from various regions gathered to sing, dance and drink. But if yo...

A Woman's Life Changing Journey. Día del Escudo Nacional del Ecuador. November 1, 2016. By Mary Anne Dorward. Today is Halloween. But it’s also Día del Escudo Nacional del Ecuador. The escudo is the coat of arms on Ecuador’s flag. Ecuador’s congress officially adopted the current version on October 31, 1900. It shows Chimborazo Volcano, the Guayas River and a steamboat also named Guayas. But what about all the other symbols? Andean condor = Bravery and power. Sun = Productivity and progress.

Footprints In Concrete | Where will you leave your mark?
Where will you leave your mark? The Ghost of Christmas Past. December 16, 2013. July 23, 2014. My favorite time of the year has to be the holiday season. We get three holidays in a little over month! It can’t get better than that! But best holiday out of the three, at least in my opinion, has to be Christmas. I just love seeing all the decorations, lights, as well as catching the “25 Days of Christmas” special on ABC Family! I especially love Christmas music! Ghost of Christmas Past. According to Scriptu...

Paths thru Peru, Footprints in Fiji. This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it. Studying Abroad with Truman and ISEP. July 21, 2016. And it definitely proved to be. I saw a bunch of new bird species and the walk was very peaceful. The scenery was beautiful. It was raining, but only lightly and I was warm with my layers. Footprints In Focus
Saturday, July 24, 2010. The day after McLayne's birthday we were in the doctors office because she had one horrible cough. The nurse asks her the questions now, What are you here for today, How old are you? When she said "I'm seven" it took me a moment to register it, SEVEN.How did seven years go so quick, everyone told me it would happen but I couldn't imagine how true that would be. A girls only jewelry making party is a perfect celebration of turning 7! Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Saying Goodbye, Again.

Thursday, March 13, 2014. Update on the Koutiala Hospital SCD screening program. Even though it has been a while since I have given an update, the sickle cell disease newborn screening program at Koutiala Hospital has continued without any problems. Not even a coup d'etat or a French military operation in the north of Mali could stop us from screening these babies! I will update soon with more photos from the clinic and with results from the first 2 years of the program. Saturday, March 9, 2013. We are i...
