Eyes High: Dig It!
http://www.eyeshigh.net/2013/06/dig-it.html
Sunday, June 2, 2013. Raw clay after being crushed into a powder. A block of newly prepared clay after being 'Wedged". Above is an example of the slip we made being used to color a pot made by Jill Whitekiller. By giving the clay a nice swat with the dampened paddle you leave an attractive and easy design. She demonstrated on a bowl and had the class participate to get the feel of it. Overlapping the stamp actually helps it on some of the designs to make a very cool looking piece. We were able to bring h...

Saturday, November 1, 2014. Dig, Dug, Done! Finding a vein of clay in a ditch 50 meters from my mothers front door on our last visit the wife and I dug a few grocery bags full. After getting back home i cut it into thin strips to dry so i could crush it and sift out any rocks, sand or various debris. Using old water bottles i got the clay dust mixed with the water. 1part clay 3 parts water. I'll try hanging a batch and setting a batch on bricks when the weather warms up again and see if there is as much ...

Eyes High: Garden Om

Saturday, January 3, 2015. Had a few woodland spirits start mediating around my house recently. They have been an inspiration to focus more on mindfulness. Next the fellow with his hat pointing straight upwards made his way out of the clay ball. He decided to sit seiza. Last but certainly not least our bearded friend emerged. All are currently still leatherhard although the first is well on his way to becoming greenware. Already looking forward to glazing these pieces. Posted by Mic Burns.

Sunday, December 7, 2014. Aikido Themed Pottery I made for our Dojo Christmas party. Having made a mirror image stamp with the Aikido kanji on it I figured it would be nice to make everyone from the adult class an ornament. Glad that I did because they went over very well. I was happy to be able to give everyone a little something special. Posted by Mic Burns. December 17, 2014 at 1:42 AM. January 2, 2015 at 12:02 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Eyes High: Changes
http://www.eyeshigh.net/2014/11/changes.html
Sunday, November 30, 2014. I wish that I could find a vein of clay pure enough to not require me processing it. I do have to admit though I enjoy the process of getting a good usable debris-free clay. It seemed a little daunting at first but after having worked the first piece made from clay you've dug yourself you will most likely be hooked. It reminds me of that feeling I get cooking with vegetables grown in my own yard. The feed the spirit. Working this clay was therapeutic. Posted by Mic Burns.

Eyes High: Yuletide Gifts
http://www.eyeshigh.net/2015/01/yuletide-gifts.html
Thursday, January 1, 2015. Roses made out of the clay I dug while in Ohio. Most everything I made from this first batch of clay ended up sagging during its first firing. Although I quickly learned in subsequent firings that even these roses with their relatively thin stems and heavy tops didnt try sagging a second time. The one trailing in the back is based on my little brothers Future Beach. The front two are based on the Old Town Otter. Posted by Mic Burns. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
