Jonathan Bird's Blue World: February 2011
http://jonathanbirdsblueworld.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 25, 2011. Back from the Silver banks! The Blue World crew has just returned from the Silver Banks where we filmed Humpback whales for the third season! We chartered the Turks and Caicos Aggressor for a week and spent all week trying to sneak up close to whales. The female Humpbacks in the north Atlantic migrate down to the Caribbean in the winter to have their calves in the warm, calm waters. The males follow along, hoping to mate with the females. The animals are magnificent, tremendous...

http://jonathanbirdsblueworld.blogspot.com/2012/01/bull-sharks-in-riviera-maya.html
Monday, January 30, 2012. Bull Sharks in the Riviera Maya! A couple years ago I met Jorge Loria, owner of Phantom Divers. In Playa del Carmen, Mexico. He told me about an amazing dive he had been doing with Bull sharks. And I really wanted to do a Blue World. Bull sharks look like your basic reef shark, but they grow considerably larger, and are often considered quite a bit more feisty. I wanted to find out what these sharks are like in the wild. When the crew and I arrived (see blog post here. We made p...

Saturday, June 19, 2010. Diving Southern Queensland: The Gold Coast! A little over ten years ago while visiting the Caribbean island of Dominica, I met Jules Morton and Glen Holmes, the divemasters at Castaways Hotel and Dive Center. We became friends and talked about diving in various places in the world that we loved. A few months later, Jules and Glen came up and visited Christine and I in Massachusetts for a few weeks. Glen promised some of the best diving ever. Well, we were not disappointed! At 120...

Between the Put-In and the Take-Out. Kayaking, Life and Everything Else. Wednesday, February 25, 2009. So, I've been thinking a lot about kayaking lately. For no particular reason really, I've just been considering the question most people ask me: "Why do you kayak? We cannot escape fear. We can only transform it into a. Companion that accompanies us on all our exciting adventures.". Monday, February 23, 2009. Weekend ReCap with Jim. Sunday was paddling day and I organized a group trip to the Upper Klick...

Was Shell's Birthday and also the annual birthday paddle. Shell's choice was the Kalama. River up in Washington, a beautiful drainage that runs off the flanks of Mt. St. Helens. We awoke to cold temps and at the put-in the Subaru. The paddle was a ton of fun and COLD! I opted to take out my playboat. Yes, that is snow on the trees. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Between the Put-In and the Take-Out. Kayaking, Life and Everything Else. Thursday, January 21, 2010. My Return to Paddling. So I pretty much rested. Fast forward to early January and I was headed back to the water. I wasn't entirely sure how my shoulder would do, so I thought I would take it easy my first day back. So, my buddy Aaron Nudelman and I joined a group for a run down the seldom paddled, little known Cedar Creek (a tributary of the Lewis River in Washington State. Other than that, Shell and I h...
