When log drives ended in 1949, river use lessened for many years until paper mills’ demand for soft wood brought logging roads for big pulp trucks. Better river access coupled with an increase in recreational boating and better fishing brought more people to the Rapid.

Louise Dickinson Rich (14 June 1903 - 9 April 1991). Louise Dickinson Rich and her husband, Ralph Eugene Rich, lived on the Rapid River in Maine from the time they were married until he died in 1945.
