The Outlet: a photoblog by Ingrid Barrentine: July 2008

Thursday, July 31, 2008. Sometimes it pays to leave the shooting agenda at home. Today that seemed to be the case for me here in Tacoma. After school got out I headed down to the waterfront to scout some locations for a magazine shoot I'm working on. I stopped at the Maritime Museum and was checking out some old school boats when a voice from behind me inquired if I was with the media. I said yes because for the most part I usually am. I left with new friends, fun photos, and a smile at such good fortune.

Friday, October 23, 2009. Seahawks vs. Cardinals. Shot my first NFL game on Sunday and was pleased with the photos but not the final outcome. Unfortunately for Seattle fans, the Seahawks are not having a stellar season. For me, the best part of the game was being able to use a 500 f4 for the very first time and getting to see my nephew be the tee-hawk (see first photo). Links to this post. Sunday, October 11, 2009. We've just wrapped up midterms - and now the push toward November and the election. Frankly, I'll be delighted when it is all over. Links to this post. University of Washington Tacoma. Saturday, October 18, 2008. Fall = coffee, corn mazes, and Halloween. I'm a staff photographer now. But, at least I'm out shooting assignments on a regular basis. Here are photos from around town.

Tuesday, April 14, 2009. More train-ing and other news. I spent some more time on The Sounder today with a new, smaller camera Joe borrowed from work. The Canon G10 is a rough and tumble point-and-shoot camera that reminds me of my dad's old Rollie film camera. He used to take that thing everywhere - it was an amazing "toy.". The sun came out in time for the M's home opener - and of course, my ride home from work. Links to this post. Thursday, April 2, 2009. Tracks that equal progress. Links to this post.

Forgive Us Our Student Debts
Forgive Us Our Student Debts. Thursday, November 19, 2009. Rising Costs Without Commensurate Returns. Between 1982 and 2007, the costs of a college degree increased 439% while family income rose 147%! How could this happen? Obviously, there are many influencers, but the biggest contributing factor appears to be the "ready" availability of federally-backed student loans. Whenever unlimited or "easy" financing is available for any large consumer purchase, price paid tends to soar. Student loan defaults hav...

Musicians are the cultural heroes of our society, divinely inspired; to suggest that they need to become mere technicians is treachery! It’s not just musicians, though.
