Fork it ... a Gloucester allotment: April 2008
http://fork-in-hell.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 21, 2008. Rain, rain go away! Am I the only one wishing the weather would get better! And the tantrums I had every time we tried to dig out a 20 foot long weed root are now much, much less (much to D's relief! He spent most of his time on the parcel shelf of the open boot in the car lapping up the spring sunshine. Sunday, April 13, 2008. Spring has sprung . Chitting Parsnip seed . 'White Gem'. For ages I've been wanting to make the inside look a little better and I decided to staple all the...

Sunday, April 13, 2008. Spring has sprung . April is living up to it's reputation as being a wet month, one minute we have a beautiful clear blue sky then 5 minutes later it's bloody pouring down! Chitting Parsnip seed . 'White Gem'. Seed packet wallpaper (and brewing tea! The last couple of jobs were to sow some carrots 1 row each of Early Nantes 2, Fly away and Amsterdam forcing and then dig over one of the beds on the new plot to put onions in. I chitted my parsnip seeds last year. I'm growing in ...
Fork it ... a Gloucester allotment: July 2009

Friday, July 24, 2009. Come rain or shine! I was told by friends earlier in the year that we were supposed to be having a proper summer this year, I'm not qute sure what's happened. I know it's not been cold but my God the rain! The browny/rusty coloured plant in the picture above is a parsnip from last year which I have left on purpose to get the seeds, I'm amazed at how tall they grow! I've also just harvested my first ever cauliflower! But boy he was a whopper, almost the size of a football. I dec...

Monday, July 21, 2008. I am still alive! I wish I could say that due to the endless hours of sunshine we have spent hours at the allotment which has prevented me from posting on the blog, sadly we haven't had any sun at all! We seem to have been really busy with stuff, we were expecting a royal visit from my father which sent us into a flurry of activity sprucing up the house and garden (so much so our neighbours thought we were preparing to sell and move! I also got rid of the Broad Bean plants as they ...
Fork it ... a Gloucester allotment: February 2009

Monday, February 02, 2009. D' examining the new Asparagus bed and harvested carrots in foreground. Well, after a very long break in the blog I'm back! Sorry to anyone who has been waiting for a post (especially the Suffolk contingency! I've taken the plunge now and decided that if we're now in our 3rd year that we may well still have the plot in a couple of years so I went and bought some asparagus plants. I have to say that once again I'm really pleased by the service I received, a cardboard box arrived...

Pushing up the daisies: February 2007
http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Pushing up the daisies. An Aussie stranded in France tries her hand at an allotment - can she grow those parsnips, or die trying? Monday, February 26, 2007. Decided to make a separate post for my seedlings! So I can take some photos and add them. They are all sprouting! I am so pleased! Posted by antipodesgirl @ 10:50 AM 0 Comments. Saturday was a soggy mess, rain most of the day so I only went to the lottie on Sunday morning. I was the only person there! Anyway, my garlic is shooting! I am so pleased!
One Man And His Dig: March 2008
http://onemanandhisdig.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
One Man And His Dig. Monday, 31 March 2008. Men in flat caps. Did the young Humphrys have to support his family even before he left school? Things must have been tough in Cardiff back in those days: did he fit his veg-digging activities in between shifts down the pit? I think we should be told. I must admit I had never heard of this method, for perhaps obvious reasons. If anyone feels like trying it on, I would be most interested in hearing about the results. Tuesday, 18 March 2008. Perhaps the eviction ...

About the Artist’s Garden. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive for August, 2008. How do You plan a border? On August 28, 2008 24 Comments. Today I was putting a few plants into one of the newly dug borders that we have made this year. I was thinking about how I go about re-planting a flower bed – or a whole garden for that matter. This is what the “Keyhole bed” looked like in 2006 when we moved into the house. So I was thinking …. I am the kind of person who has a. So tell me – what kind of ...

Pushing up the daisies. An Aussie stranded in France tries her hand at an allotment - can she grow those parsnips, or die trying? Sunday, March 30, 2014. UPDATE From February 24. This is an entry that I wrote but did not get around to posting! It is still too cool and wet to think about much else but I am already looking at the pea bed menacingly. I chucked a few broad bean seeds in a couple of weeks ago to see what would happen - to my surprise, 8 plants are already growing! Subscribe to Posts [ Atom.

Pushing up the daisies: June 2006

Pushing up the daisies. An Aussie stranded in France tries her hand at an allotment - can she grow those parsnips, or die trying? Thursday, June 22, 2006. But some of us are an exception to the rule. After 12 years of living in France, I can now eat a variety of runny smelly dairy products that no self-respecting Australian would normally think could come out of an udder. Will I actually get anything to grow? Will I hack off my toes in an unfortunate hoeing incident? Only time will tell. Wolf at the Door...

Pushing up the daisies: Beans and squash

Pushing up the daisies. An Aussie stranded in France tries her hand at an allotment - can she grow those parsnips, or die trying? Tuesday, May 27, 2014. The summer planting is finally done. This weekend, I managed to get a good bit of work done, it was rather satisfying! As for harvesting, we ate - loads of rhubarb again, about 400g strawberries (despite the wet weather), a small bag full of baby leaves, a few broad beans (that unfortunately got burned in the saucepan by the family on Mother's Day! Livin...
One Man And His Dig: Peas v beans
http://onemanandhisdig.blogspot.com/2009/06/peas-v-beans.html
One Man And His Dig. Thursday, 18 June 2009. Until now, I have never had to ask myself this most taxing of questions: which are better - peas or beans? Myself, I love broad beans. They are one of my favourite vegetables, and really do taste so much better when you grow them yourself. Peas, on the other hand, have a reputation as being a bit trickier to grow - if the mice don't get the seeds when you first plant them, the pea weevil gets them when they are all podded up and ready to go. One Man And His Di...

One Man And His Dig. Friday, 27 June 2008. They are made of special stuff. Tuesday, 24 June 2008. I want this hoe. This is a moment of spiritual cleansing, akin to going on a retreat or perhaps meditating, when I tip everything out on to the allotment path, stare at it for a while, wonder what on earth that unlabelled pot of white powder is (fertiliser? PS Got any tools which are too broken to use but too good to throw away? Friday, 20 June 2008. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

One Man And His Dig. Tuesday, 23 June 2009. The gift of garlic. I don't give away much any more. When we first had the allotment we gave away loads, usually because we had got our planting all wrong and had got far too much beetroot, or courgette, or whatever. Nowadays we are a lot smarter, and while we have not exactly banished the notion of surplus altogether, we tend to eat pretty much everything we grow. He didn't get the Albigensian garlic, though. That's my favourite: it is a very pretty purple...

Заброшенные здания Москвы - где они? 21 апр, 2009 at 3:55 AM. A Fork in the Road
A Fork in the Road. The RV Adventures of Dennis and Mickey. Sunday, September 19, 2010. The UT game is usually the biggest game of the year for Tech. Since 1976, I have attended all but 2 of these games, and one of those was because Derek had a UNH playoff soccer game the same day. While I almost never expect to beat the Evil Empire, I expected this to be a down year for them which gave me some hope. Unfortunately, it was not our night. The EE won 24-14. Derek and Elrod in an athletic competition. We had...
