Monday, May 11, 2009. The scene is St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. Here you see before you a repentant sinner who is bent forward in intense emotional connection to his redeemer. Or, maybe its just another tourist trying to find a location on a map. Through a photograph you can make people believe anything." Cindy Sherman. May 15, 2009 at 11:02 PM. Or even possibly Cindy herself with her satchel of vintage clothing for her next photo shoot, pondering do I dress as a man or woman?

Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Here is an example of a good use of Photomerge. This looks like a pretty natural image, but what great depth of field for a hand-held shot with interior lighting. Actually there are two separate images made several minutes apart from approximately. Eventually you will notice that there is a gap in the upper left corner that I filled with black, but it is practically unnoticeable. I think the final image is much stronger than its parts. Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Some recent cloud views. Yeah, I know, more of the same. I'm hoping to break through this week into something new. June 4, 2009 at 9:33 AM. Steiglitz called them songs of the sky. but you knew that. I guess he started doing cloud pictures because someone accused him of making good photos only because he had an hypnotic effect on his subjects. He believed that no one could accuse him of having a similar effect on the clouds. June 6, 2009 at 11:41 AM. June 7, 2009 at 8:31 PM.

Saturday, May 16, 2009. I guess I never get tired of looking at clouds. These two are from the same late afternoon a couple of weeks ago. There just seems to be an endless display of these heavenly bodies, warped and twisted by currents of air; reflecting marvelous tones and values. May 16, 2009 at 11:36 PM. Someday you'll have to tell me if there is a difference between a tone and a value. and also if a tone by itself can be marvelous. In the meantime, I'll enjoy your pictures. May 18, 2009 at 8:47 AM.

Friday, May 22, 2009. For Inspiration Friday, I've chosen this week the work of Linda Butler, specifically an early book called Inner Light: The Shaker Legacy. Most of the images are drawn from Shaker communities in Pleasant HIll, Kentucky and New England. Butler used a large format camera to capture exquisite quality in images that resonate with sensitive light. Information from her biography. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Here are a couple of images of legs. The people in this picture are enjoying the experience of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. As you may know, shoes are not permitted, but are removed at the entrance and returned when the visitor leaves. What remarkable rug patterns extend throughout this very large structure, and what a great variety of socks. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Welcome to Visual Notes. In contrast to my other blog. The present site is more of a notebook of visual ideas, one that doesn't require a lot of analysis; simply a sharing of some current work, or maybe some past images that may be worthy of discussing. I hope to make it more immediate, and perhaps update it daily if possible.

Friday, May 8, 2009. But today, forget the filters. In converting to grayscale, you can apply any color filter you wish and alter the image tones a dramatically as you like. You don't need to carry a tripod up the mountain, and chances are slim that you will run out of storage before the day's shooting is complete. This little beauty was thriving just outside my studio, a perennial gift from the former owners. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Welcome to Visual Notes.

Thursday, May 28, 2009. Two citizens from Cuba:. This gentlemen was sitting in front of his little house across from the cathedral in Bayamo. He begged me to photograph him, I am sure because he expected a gratuity. At first I refused because I had no money in my pocket. But he insisted. This lad is a resident of Camaguey, a very pedestrian-friendly and very busy city. He was very pleased to pose for the picture and then for a second view with three of his friends.
