Fork this...fork that...and get stuffed!: November 2010

http://forkthisforkthatandgetstuffed.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 2 November 2010. Consequently I found myself with 11 rather small. Figs and a bit of a dilemma, as this wasn. 8217;t really enough to make anything like a tart or any other recipe I had that involved figs. I spent a while Googling ‘Figs’ in the hope of finding something that would use up the meagre handful I had, and eventually came across this recipe for Microwave fig jam with orange and rosemary. I don’t have any of the kit like a Maslin. 100g of orange, peeled, de. The zest of the orange.

Fork this...fork that...and get stuffed!: October 2010

http://forkthisforkthatandgetstuffed.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 5 October 2010. The last stand of the greenhouse monsters…. Much to my amazement the greenhouse is managing to hold off the relentless assault of Autumn and is still providing an amazing harvest. The back from the dead zombie cayenne chillies have finally decided to turn red. I didn’t think they’d make it but they proved me wrong. Little do they know that in doing so they have sealed their fate, for I shall now dry and grind them into powder mwahahahah! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Chocolate and ...

http://forkthisforkthatandgetstuffed.blogspot.com/2010/05/now-showing-cheesy-whorls-of-pure-evil.html

Tuesday, 4 May 2010. Now showing: ‘Cheesy Whorls of Pure Evil’…. I finally finished the Cannes job and on Saturday I got bored waiting for the kitchen to get finished and the food to ‘hurry up and grow already.’ This blog was supposed to be about growing stuff - then cooking it and yet so far I had completely failed to cook anything. 8217;t a stoned girl passed out in the bathtub, or any beer in the fridge. I have had more stitches than a weedy kid doing double cross-country running in January. I can...

Fork this...fork that...and get stuffed!: Weapon of mass distraction...

http://forkthisforkthatandgetstuffed.blogspot.com/2010/07/weapon-of-mass-distraction.html

Monday, 5 July 2010. Weapon of mass distraction. 8211; mainly in the interests of maintaining recipe integrity you understand, but also because I’d never tried posh high % cocoa stuff and was curious. I have long suspected that my tastes were pretty unsophisticated and that I wouldn’t be able to handle ‘proper chocolate’. I was wrong, its brilliant and that means I am clever and sophisticated. A Triple Choc Ice Cream recipe (or a dastardly plot to take over the world – you decide). 189; teaspoon vanilla.

Fork this...fork that...and get stuffed!: 'makes me happy, makes me cold…’

http://forkthisforkthatandgetstuffed.blogspot.com/2010/07/makes-me-happy-makes-me-cold.html

Saturday, 3 July 2010. Makes me happy, makes me cold…’. A long time ago I realised that the only way to be sure of getting anything decent for my birthday was to buy it myself. However, I think that I may have spent too long in the sun this week and gone a bit '. Because I seem to have bought myself an ice cream maker (a Cuisinart ICE30 BCU. Stuff that passes for ice cream in most supermarkets. Style squirts (made possible thanks to the tinkering of apprentice arch villain Margaret Thatcher in her pre.

Shiny NewAllotment Holder: April 2010

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, 25 April 2010. Butterscotch Sauce and Barbed Wire. Harvested my first batch of rhubarb yesterday. Not from the traumatised plants cowering behind the shed after they were brutally propagated over the winter months - I'm leaving those to recover and develop a good strong root system this year before I start amputating their stalks. These ones are from a patch at the other end of the plot that I will probably dig up and relocate next winter. And here is my effort:. Have to say it would've been perf...

Shiny NewAllotment Holder: March 2010

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 28 March 2010. I'm making myself my own personal corral! An encampment of vegetables protected by razor-sharp flints from marauding slugs and snails! Well, it will be once I've pelleted all the ones I've encircled. With slug pellets of the organic variety, of course - wouldn't want to put anything down that harmed other wildlife. Or maybe I'll just drown them in beer (bit of a waste of beer though). Posted by Shiny New Allotment Holder. Wednesday, 24 March 2010. I do grow climbing plants over the...

Shiny NewAllotment Holder: February 2011

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, 26 February 2011. The Return of the Unpleasant Pheasant. I sowed 60 aquadulce broad beans back in early January. Ever so gently nurtured them on windowsills. Very carefully hardened them off in the cold-frame at home. With love, braved the mud, and planted them all out in neat rows at the allotment. Only to see them decimated this week by the resident pesky allotment pheasant. Wanton vandalism that leaves me dreaming of shooting the darn pest. Posted by Shiny New Allotment Holder. But as the mo...

Shiny NewAllotment Holder: April 2011

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Friday, 22 April 2011. Hmmm blog may be being somewhat neglected lately, but not at the expense of our fruit and veg. Excitingly, I have a stuffed pheasant in a case borrowed from my local museum school loan collection currently sitting up in my studio at the moment, about to become an oil painting for me to permanently enjoy (or if I don't like the resultant painting and I'm not too ashamed at the outcome, may offer it to my allotment shop to cheer up their blank walls). Shiny NewAllotment Holder: January 2010

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, 24 January 2010. Posted by Shiny New Allotment Holder. Saturday, 23 January 2010. Spring is just around the corner. Seedlings sown at the beginning of January are coming along very nicely indeed. Started All The Year Round. Cauliflower and Summer Purple. Sprouting Broccoli indoors 3 seeds to a pot on a windowsill at the very beginning of January, and last week potted them up individually and put them outside in the mini-greenhouse. They look as though they are flourishing. Chive shoots are beginn...

Shiny NewAllotment Holder: Mooning Sunflower

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2010/09/mooning-sunflower.html

Saturday, 18 September 2010. Some tomatoes ripened before the blight struck or are ones that we've caught early when plants were only just beginning to keel over. These have been placed in a fruit bowl packed with bananas, the ethylene gas from the bananas helping our toms to ripen. Though we do need to keep a close eye on these, as some do rot thanks to the dastardly blight. Oops - did I say that out loud? I've also been roasting the last of the sumer squashes and marrows, and cooking them up with some ...

Shiny NewAllotment Holder: Denuded Parsnips

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2010/10/denuded-parsnips.html

Sunday, 3 October 2010. Just like a lizard will lose it's tail to escape predators, my parsnips have an inbuilt defence to greedy people like me, I discovered that it will shed it's greenery. Scratch my head a bit, and out comes the fork. Gently as I can, I fork all around the parsnip, loosening it's grip on the soil. Then I start to apply upward pressure, slowly does it. Hear an onimous wet crunchy cracking sound, and know I've broken the root. So finally I resort to digging it out by hand. I always str...

Shiny NewAllotment Holder: February 2010

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, 27 February 2010. It's been way to wet over the past week to go to the lottie, but dry enough today to have a close look at the back garden and admire this little beauty ( Iris Reticulata. Which opened up this morning. Spring is definitely here. Posted by Shiny New Allotment Holder. Thursday, 25 February 2010. It hasn't stopped raining all week, so no chance of being able to get on with much at the plot this weekend. Although temperatures are nicely on the rise, think I'll resist the tempta...

Shiny NewAllotment Holder: June 2010

http://shinynewallotmentholder.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, 27 June 2010. Where'd my garden go? We are at the stage now where most of our meals are based around things that we've grown ourselves- new potatoes, turnips, broad beans, peas, courgette, purple sprouting broccoli, lettuce, onions, spring onions, garlic, chard, spinach, beetroot. Posted by Shiny New Allotment Holder. Sunday, 6 June 2010. For the love of espaliers. Admired lots of beautiful shaped espaliered trees and soft fruits, something I've always fancied having a go at doing. Probably my fa...
