Thursday, November 22, 2012. How I Built my Trench Blocks. I have not been able to game this week, between overtime at work, and Spike and I re-modelling our kitchen. I did find time to put together a quick tutorial for everyone asking about my trench blocks that have been regular scenery on these pages. Here is a hill (6 plain squares, topped by two smaller squares), and several blocks that will make up a river (2 plain squares, topped with two layers, cut to shape). Make your cardboard squares SLIGHTLY...

Old Admirals: February 2013
http://oldadmirals.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 4, 2013. Another Anglo-French Dispute, at Sea. My apologies for the long absence. I have been reading and trying to devise a way to simulate Victorian era "ship-vs.-fort" rules.to no avail! The first turn sees Carlos move most of his ships to my right, while sending the other across my path. He lands an early long range shot on HMS Collingwood. The second turn sees both fleets concentrate fire on the few vessels in range. Coolingwod and Admiral Baudin take some serious hits. Caiman and R...

Old Admirals: Two Books You Should Read
http://oldadmirals.blogspot.com/2012/11/two-books-you-should-read.html
Sunday, November 25, 2012. Two Books You Should Read. I am making a serious effort to read an average of one book per week this year. Here an reviews of the last two returned to the bookshelf completed. First up is Paul G. Halpern's "The Naval War in the Mediterranean 1914-1918"(Naval Institute Press, 1987). This book is not a "light" or easy read, but it is a very important one for those seeking to understand why the Allies did not pursue a more aggressive strategy in the Mediterranean and Adriatic....

CS Armed Rams Move-2hexes, Gun Range-2 hex, Floatation-6 Points, Critical point-2 points. The smaller Confederate rams are destroyed early, but the Federal...

Friday, January 11, 2013. I am glad to be back writing on the blog again. The holidays, overtime at work, and the arrival of a new member to our home has played havoc with gaming and writing. Last night I was able to play a game that had been set up and waiting for over a week. Here are the starting forces for the British:. 1 Commander Unit(in Chevy) 2 Strength Points. 4 Tank Units(A9 and A10's) 12 SP total. 2 Light Tank Units(Mk VI's) 6 SP. 1 Armoured Car Unit 3 SP. 2 Field Artillery Units(25pd) 4 SP.

Adventures in Portable Wargaming: Building a Game Board in One Day
http://adventuresportablewargaming.blogspot.com/2012/12/building-game-board-in-one-day.html
Tuesday, December 11, 2012. Building a Game Board in One Day. Last week I built a scenery board for my Portable Wargames set in the desert or Tunisia. Last night I began one for "greener terrain". Here is how it was built. The tape can be a bit tricky to get off the roll, but the strength it gives the playing surface is worth the trouble. I painted the edges over the tape first, then began filling in the middle. Taco Bell Nacho plates make excellent paint trays. I then sprinkle flock near one edge, sprea...
