For Love of Mud Pottery - Wood Train Kiln
http://www.forloveofmud.com/kiln.php
This is called a train kiln and was designed by John Neely at Utah State University. The pottery fired in this kiln resembles pottery fired in an anagama kiln, with thick deposits of ash. I purchased my kiln's design plans from Judith Duff.

All Things Clay/ aTi, Summer 2013. This blog details my experiences at the 2013 aTi North workshop, "All Things Clay." My instructor was Deborah Goletz. Sunday, August 4, 2013. Day five: Afternoon presentations. When aTi participants came into our classroom, we each demonstrated a task for viewers. I demonstrated how to roll out a slab and flatten it on the slab board. It's a task that seems easy enough, but when you actually try it (like most other activities in life), it is harder than it origi...Poste...

All Things Clay/ aTi, Summer 2013. This blog details my experiences at the 2013 aTi North workshop, "All Things Clay." My instructor was Deborah Goletz. Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Reflections, day one. Since aTi is running from 9-5, I figured I would go home after the coursework, relax for a bit, and then go to the gym. After day one, I was exhausted once I got home. My whole body felt like it had experienced an arduous workout. My hands felt fatigued. After lunch, we were shown how to add coils to a base in...

All Things Clay/ aTi, Summer 2013. This blog details my experiences at the 2013 aTi North workshop, "All Things Clay." My instructor was Deborah Goletz. Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Day two photos and captions. This is step one of creating a mug or pitcher. You use a cylinder to mold the shape. This is my pitcher. Adding that spout was incredibly hard. I realize that it is disproportionate. Maybe I'll stick to mugs. This was our end-of-the-day activity. Our greenware in the kiln. View my complete profile.

All Things Clay/ aTi, Summer 2013. This blog details my experiences at the 2013 aTi North workshop, "All Things Clay." My instructor was Deborah Goletz. Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Day three, potter's wheel. These are the three most "vivid" memory devices:. 1) When starting out with the clay, center it on the potter's wheel plate and make it look like Patrick's house (from Spongebob). 2) When pressing down on the clay, make a "bear fist.". I was getting frustrated. The only saving grace was that the ot...

All Things Clay/ aTi, Summer 2013. This blog details my experiences at the 2013 aTi North workshop, "All Things Clay." My instructor was Deborah Goletz. Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Making it look easy. I have a video of Deborah's demo, but Blogger is giving me issues. In addition to pottery challenges, I guess I also have tech challenges. Instead, I am going to post two demo-day photos taken by Jenifer Simon. These were three different pieces that Deborah made during her demonstrations.

http://new2clay.blogspot.com/2013/07/day-4-glazing.html
All Things Clay/ aTi, Summer 2013. This blog details my experiences at the 2013 aTi North workshop, "All Things Clay." My instructor was Deborah Goletz. Wednesday, July 24, 2013. On day 4, we opened the kiln and further checked the status of our greenware pieces (greenware is when the piece is "gray clay"). Although some of my pieces were awkward looking, all of my pieces survived. Incorrect. Underglaze is basically a matte-like finish. Deborah described the firing process to us, informing us of the vari...

Live, Laugh, Love
Live, Laugh, Love. There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened before." - Willa (the Thrilla) Cather. Friday, March 11, 2011. Knowing hurts. At times I almost wish I could return to that state of ignorance before all this began. But I know it'll be worth it in the end. The refiner's fire may be hot and uncomfortable for a while, but the result is a flawless gem. I'm definitely straight up coal for now, though. Friday, May 2, 2008.

September 8, 2013. The Line Between Right and Wrong. As a child growing up in the late ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, I was always aware of a distinct line between right and wrong. We were taught, from the start, what was right, what was wrong and, more importantly, that there were consequences for doing wrong. If all manner of behaviors and actions are to be accepted, where do you draw the line of legal vs. illegal or right vs. wrong? What kind of future is that for our children and grandchildren? Thursday, June 16, 2011. It's been so long! So I have been away for quite some time, as you may have noticed. A lot has happened since my silly halloween fun videos. Most important is the work I have been doing on our new addition to the family. I am due to have another baby in October! It's a girl too :). That is a relatively old photo now. We have another ultrasound tomorrow so I am hoping to get a few new ones to add in. I am 24 weeks along as of right now. We are all super super excited! You Know How...
