Ft Croghan Grounds and Museum. Membership - Burnet County Heritage Society. The Burnet County Heritage Society a 501(c)3 membership corporation. All individuals who are at least 18 years of age may join the group. Each dues-paying member is entitled to one vote on any motion or business acted on at any meeting of the membership. Dues of $5 are paid on an annual basis. Meetings are held each 2nd Tuesday of the month at 2 pm, in the meeting room of the Museum.

The museum uses varied groups and re-enactors throughout the day, so that visitors can get a sense of what life was like for early pioneers and settlers. Frequent visitors to the day's festivities include Buffalo Soldiers (African-American U.S. Army soldiers, typically calvary during the 1800s), Confederate soldiers, Yankee soldiers of the Civil War era, fur trappers, Native Americans and others. Come on out and see how it used to be!

Ft Croghan Grounds and Museum. Welcome to Ft. Croghan Museum and Grounds. Established in 1849 by the U. S. Government to protect the Settlers from Indian depredations. Named for Col. George Croghan, War of 1812 hero and later Inspector General of the U. S. Army. The fort originally consisted of 1600 acres from Hamilton Creek westward including Post Mountain in Burnet County.
