The Lazy Randonneur: Penny Farthing World Tour
http://thelazyrandonneur.blogspot.com/2008/11/penny-farthing-world-tour.html
I'm lazy, but I like to bike. I'm full of contradictions. Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Penny Farthing World Tour. All photos: Joe Summerfield. Two things you don't expect to see in a bike tour journal. A guy touring on a penny farthing in Tibet. The same rider getting a wisdom tooth pulled while camping without anesthetic. Holy cow. That is a serious tour, on a fixed gear Penny Farthing! Makes me feel like a wimp getting into randonneuring on a recumbent. November 11, 2008 4:50 PM. Vik's Crank Forward Blog.

The Lazy Randonneur: Marathon Supreme Tires
http://thelazyrandonneur.blogspot.com/2008/11/marathon-supreme-tires.html
I'm lazy, but I like to bike. I'm full of contradictions. Thursday, November 20, 2008. Marathon XR 26 x 1.6" = 595g. Marathon Supreme 26 x 1.6" = 440g. I've been using the Supreme's since they were released. They are wide enough to work well on graded surfaces and are tolerable on roughed up ice but forget about it on smooth or black ice. Had to pick myself up a few times last winter for those conditions on my commute. November 20, 2008 12:40 PM. What size were you using? November 20, 2008 12:51 PM.

The Lazy Randonneur: Pulse Braking
http://thelazyrandonneur.blogspot.com/2008/09/pulse-braking.html
I'm lazy, but I like to bike. I'm full of contradictions. Saturday, September 13, 2008. Recently there was an online discussion about the best way to brake on a long mountain descent and the theory behind why the pulse braking technique works was very well explained by Tony Raven. I've pasted in his comments below with permission - thanks Tony! For the same reason alternate pulse braking also works because it doubles the rim surface temperature of the wheel you are braking over braking on both wheels but...

The Lazy Randonneur: Bike Touring Tibet
http://thelazyrandonneur.blogspot.com/2008/10/bike-touring-tibet.html
I'm lazy, but I like to bike. I'm full of contradictions. Friday, October 31, 2008. I came across this book at MEC. A few weeks ago and have enjoyed reading about bike touring in Tibet. I can't vouch for the accuracy of any of the information published in this book, but it seems quite comprehensive and is well written. Although I think tour journals like those at Crazy Guy on a Bike. And travelers' forums like the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Vik's Burning Man 2007 Blog.

The Lazy Randonneur: Disc Brakes vs. Rim Brakes
http://thelazyrandonneur.blogspot.com/2008/09/disc-brakes-vs-rim-brakes.html

The Lazy Randonneur: Selle Anatomica Saddle - Loaner
http://thelazyrandonneur.blogspot.com/2008/11/selle-anatomica-saddle-loaner.html
I'm lazy, but I like to bike. I'm full of contradictions. Saturday, November 08, 2008. Selle Anatomica Saddle - Loaner. After trying many saddles over the years I was very happy with my Brooks Champion Flyer. So happy that touring with padded bike shorts is a thing of the past. I was quite surprised when I tried a Selle Anatomica Titanico saddle. Brooks: no need for padded bike shorts, at the end of a long day of touring I can tell I've been riding a bike saddle, but there is no significant discomfort.

The Lazy Randonneur: Sheldon Brown on Brakes for touring bikes...
http://thelazyrandonneur.blogspot.com/2008/11/sheldon-brown-on-brakes-for-touring.html
I'm lazy, but I like to bike. I'm full of contradictions. Monday, November 10, 2008. Sheldon Brown on Brakes for touring bikes. Posted this Adventure Cycling article written by Sheldon Brown. About the different brakes that touring cyclists may be considering. There are a few points I'll add to what Sheldon says:. Cane Creek now makes a drop bar v-brake lever. Which is very nice. I've used the Dia Compe 287-V and it has worked nicely for me. I'd recommend using a Koolstop salmon coloured pad. You need a ...

I'm lazy, but I like to bike. I'm full of contradictions. Saturday, November 01, 2008. Lonely Planet Thorn Tree. I've known about the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forum. For quite a while, but have only recently taken the time to delve into it more throroughly. They have a cycle touring sub-forum. Which is really useful when you need up to date info on border crossings or cycling conditions in far flung parts of the world. If you are traveling or planning a trip this forum is well worth visiting. What kind o...

I'm lazy, but I like to bike. I'm full of contradictions. Monday, November 10, 2008. Neil [owner of CGOAB. Is working with Stephen of Bilenky Cycle Works. To develop a 26" wheeled expedition touring bike. Neil's approach seems to be very purposeful and the end result looks promising - especially given the lack of 26" wheeled touring bikes for larger riders available in North America.
